– – 30-34 Degrees – Ice
Water extremely low in our honey hole and mostly frozen. Not much shooting but my buddy got a banded hen woodie from MD. Only one black duck and only a few misses to report. We need rain and weather for the “good” spot to get better as today was not the best, but at least we got out and shot at a few!!

I haven’t gotten out yet, but there are good numbers of birds around. I’ve seen several good bunches of ducks including some divers (mostly ringers) and mallards. The geese are in good numbers when you can find them. Most of what I am seeing are feeding in alfalfa and clover. I haven’t seen any in corn yet. I did get reports of a few geese being shot on the river this past weekend. Some of the small ponds froze but I would guess they will thaw out pretty rapidly with this rain.

Sunny & Clear, Morning Fog – Below Zero
Heavy fog this AM kept the birds sitting tight until later. 3 hunters and 1 flight of geese as the fog burnt off. Killed 3.

Water is extremely low in ponds and lakes.
Need hard warm rain.
New Mallards beginning to show up.
Still spotty.
Built two new blinds this year.
Hope I don’t drown in one of them.
Watch the dogs eyes.

I’ll be missing out on the entire season this year due to other obligations but my buddy will be using my boat and said he’d kill a few for me….LOL. Hey, what are hunting buddies for. Stay safe and keep up the reports…atleast I can read about the action. Later…..Chap

Saw a heck of a flock of sandhill cranes this morning. Awesome to watch them and hear them. I didn’t get out this weekend but from all reports the deer are still slow (although that could be because of the full moon and high winds) as much as anything. Goose starts Sunday so we are getting awful close fellas.

Well, the season is just around the corner. I have not met any fellow insane duck hunters, so if anyone would like to share a hunt, let me know. I moved back to Paducah this year and will be free lancing this year. Have 14 ft boat, decoys, dog, guns, and will travel.

I live on a lake in lexington that is about 30 acres. A large raft of divers flew in two nights ago and rested for one day then resumed migrating. I did not have a chance to put the binoculars on them so I don’t know if they were scaup, but I usually see rafts of scaup show up just about this time each year. A flock of about 30 teal used this lake every day for about a month and then disapeared. Watching and waiting for the opener.

The weather is finally starting to change here in North Dakota. It has been sunny and 60’s, but now the rain and snow is moving in. We have seen birds moving in by the thousands. The geese are here in waves. We are heading back to Kentucky today so we really only got one day in the push but it was awesome. We killed some beautiful can drakes, some redheads, gadwalls and mallards. For the trip we ended with 11 different species of ducks and geese. A great time was had by all. Now its time to look forward to early season in IN and our own season at the end of next month.

We killed our 30 yesterday (6 guys, 5 birds a piece) and had a combination of cans, redheads, bluewings, gadwalls, shovelers and mallards. It was a great day in 50-60 mph winds. We had to take close shots as the wind would blow them away before the dogs could get there. So far today we have 6 including shoveler, bluewing, green wing and gadwall. We found a good bunch of geese in a field for tomorrow morning and will try for some more ducks this afternoon. A front is supposed to move through tomorrow so hopefully these clear skies and warm temps will depart.

Good luck on the hunt. I’m sure jealous LOL. Just so you and everyone else knows that stuff that fell from the sky yesterday and today, that was wet was officially rain. I know it’s been awhile but thank God we got some. I personally can wait to get the quote hunt information back so I can start planning out my season. I plan on heading to Missouri on November 1st for opening day. I plan on hunting Saturday morning killing a limit and be on the first tee box by 11 am.

We shot our antelopes. We killed three lopes’ at a combined 1250 yards with the longest shot being 495 (ranged) with a .243, had a great hunt. We are now in NoDak and after scouting lastnight we should be on birds. The water is WAY low but there are still a ton of birds here. We saw everything from cans to mallards and everything in between, Tons of geese, swans, cranes and still a lot of teal, including bluewingers.Hope all is well with y’all back at home.

Welcome AGR!!!!!!! Good to have ya on board. The early season action seems to have been spotty for woodies and teal. I know several guys who got in on the woodies REAL good and others barely pulled a trigger. I only got out 1 evening and had a pair of woodies come in, shot twice and was done. There are still tons of geese around, hopefully we’ll see the limit go to 3 or more in the next few years. As of Friday I am off to Colorado to hunt antelope for a few days and then to North Dakota to hunt ducks. Stay safe and I’ll report once I get back.

Thanks mojcar! I was actually in a vehicle accident about a week and a half before early season so I was able to go. What a bummer. I’m so ready I can’t see straight. I look forward to hearing from you all in November. Remember everyone you got one more day to sign up for quote hunts if you haven’t already.

Welcome AGR, Yes I am waitin on the opener myself. Early goose and wood duck seasons are over and now we wait for November. Resident goose season here was pretty productive with plenty of birds around, but I should’ve stayed in bed for wood duck and teal season as I never saw a duck in 17 miles of the river.

Good opener this year! 4 man limit by 08:30, can’t beat it. The geese have been everywhere this year, but finally found a good feed field and got on them.

Finally got on some geese. The birds have been moving almost daily but we finally figured them out enough to shoot a few. They are still primarily working clover and alfalfa fields in this area, although a bit of corn is starting to come down, so I suspect they will be in it before long. We got on some doves as well and killed our first collared dove. MAn are those dudes big. It was about twice the size of the regular doves. Pretty to, real light colored with a dark collar around its neck. We had 4 of them come in but only one stayed. Oh well, we’ll get em next time. Anybody else doing any good?

HOT HOT HOT. About the only way to describe the weather. The dove hunting was a little above average on Monday. I talked to a few guys who had bang up shoots. One fella who has been putting out dove fields for longer than I have been here said he had the best shoot EVER. A couple of the guys who shoot with him said there were thousands of birds coming to his field (and its not real big), but several guys shoots didn’t turn out to be much. The geese are pretty well grouped up and should go down in decent numbers this weekend according to how many people get after em. The majority of geese that I am seeing are in clover with a few here and there in alfalfa. We will be hunting ponds though so hopefully they feed before it gets too hot. How did everyone else do on the doves?
