Drove around Goshen today and it looks like the majority of the geese that i saw are around Hawk Springs Res, a few flying from Hawk Springs to Yoder and nothing around table and Huntly but it was late morning to noon.

TABLE 11-07-2008 13:25
Cloudy, High Winds – 30-34 Degrees – Ice
Headed to Table today, packed out to pond 2 and crap froze! So we found a tiny open hole where there were 30 or so ducks sitting get set up and shoot one rite at shootin lite and that was pretty much it, saw 1 little flock rite when we picked up, grand total of around 40 total seen at table and 30 were in the dark. Did see 2 nice flocks of geese, so we decided to walk a creek by huntly and ended up killin 8 more all mallards! There was 2 good bunches of 30 or so on the creek and some singles and pairs total of 9 for the day for us nice big fat ducks, good luck and i wouldnt waste my time at table espeacially with pheasant season startin tomorrow.

Tons of big ducks early coming from Morrill direction or the river i mean thousands headed west i only ended up with 4, 3 green heads and a gaddy should of filled but missed a few, think if the wind would of came earlier so would of the ducks, friend was at table and had 12 when i walked out to talk to him, birds still movin there at noon. Only saw 2 geese at packer and 6 at table.

TABLE 10-04-2008 19:59
Sunny & Clear, Morning Fog – 60-65 Degrees
Headed to Table early this morning and got out to pond 4 just to find out it is totally covered with moss, so we spent the next 2 hours clearing a spot for the birds to land in. Not much action for us early but the other ponds were pounding down, they didnt like 4 or out blinds so we gave up early and of course here come the birds, ended up with 4 teal and one goose.

No its not unusual for this time of year but once the 90’s and 100 degree temps get here along with the wind it drys it out fast, there is a creek that the local farmers use as irragation that feeds table but they usually have it blocked off well into Oct before there done with it, just hope for those big down pours and maybe it will keep enough water in it to hunt and keep the birds there.

Table was lookin good yesterday, ponds 1,2,3,4,8 were full and the slough was lookin good all the way from 1 to almost the first parkin lot, and i think that 5 even had a little puddle out in the middle of it also, lets hope for more rain and that the water there stays cause it would be enough to keep birds around. Hawk Springs is already half empty and there still pullin water out and there is just a small stream comin in so it will be bone dry again, didnt get a chance to see Springer, but all the CRP and crops were lookin good so maybe some good cover for the roosters.

Springer is the refuge where they are all sittin, so no but there are walk in areas around it that mite be ok i would try them i think the one is #22 or 25 cant remember. I think if you went to Table with some decoys and set up on pond 3 or down in the slough you would kill some, there were also maybe a 100 or so sittin with the canadas on pond 8, Packer would be a good place to but think the fisherman will screw it all up but ya never know they were flying over it low on Tues.

Field hunted Sat. and Sun. Saturday 5 guns 25 ducks, 24 mallards 23 drakes and mess up on a hen and 1 pintail drake, 1 goose. Sunday, 15 mallards and 3 geese, could have finished limits easily but had to get home. Tons of mallards and decoying in flocks up to 300, took turns shooting both days on the single drakes. Merry Christmas.

Not much geese at table today. I flock came over before shooting time and two about 8 O clock but didn’t want in. I think because of Pheasant hutners. On Wen. got a couple of geese. Flock got up for divsion pond as I was going to set up about 7:30 and flew off to the side of me low. Later some got off pond one but not that many geese yet up there.

Well it is going to get real cold up north and only cold here. I have been seeing an increased number of geese and ducks in the area. This weekend could be good if you get the right spot. Would like to try a field hunt but I do not have the time to scout and most places won’t grant access. We plan on trying a new area in the morning. There will only be two of us because one of our hunting buddies get to go hunt one of the big wigs, from our company, private spot on the river. I hope we do better than them but I am not holding my breath. Good hunting.

We saw any where between 100 to 400 huntable geese flying around the area where we were hunting, but they did’nt seem real interested in what we had to offer. They just flew over like we were’nt even there. We were hunting a corn field and I think with the full moon they were out feeding under the cover of darkness and had water on there minds when the sun came up. My old man was binocking to the south of us and said he saw mayde 3000 or so, east of springer coming from the south heading north then turning east and going over Table Mountain. So from my observations there still is not too many honkers around. My friend said there is somewhere around 10,000 geese east of Scottsbluff. Another source said thousands of high flyers come over Brush CO. last week right ahead of the snow storm we got. Well thats all I got to tell everyone and hopfully we don’t have another season like last years. Good luck to all!

Well I didn’t make it out Friday morning but two of my hunting buddies did and they had a great shoot. I went out with them the next morning and we only had 2 birds by eight and I needed to be backin Casper by 10 so I loaded up my stuff and headed in. There were some ducks and a few geese around but we were hunting in the same spot as the day before and the few that flew by already new the game. We might have pulled a small bunch of geese in if we would have set any goose decoys out. They circled us three times with just calling but we couldn’t get them to come close enough for a good shot. I had to watch the kid this morning because mom was working so I did get to go out, but my buddies were going to try another area this morning to see if that worked any better. Hope to get out next weekend before the local DU waterfowlers Party here in Casper. Good luck to everyone.

Well I hope someone got to shoot at some of the thousands of geese I saw fly right by on Wed. afternoon. We got one more shoot in on our pond this morning, which was only kept open by the ducks, and we ened up with 13 ducks. We could have had our 3 man limit easy but we were selective in our shooting trying to get those duck to land in the open hole and not in the middle of the pond on the ice. We did end up with four hard ice retrieves where the dogs had to break ice for fifty yards to get to the birds. It was just thin enough that they might fall through so I had to keep sitting my dog on the edge of the ice everytime he made it on top until it would break. Made for some tuff work for the dog but it is better than losing one in the middle of the pond. I really hope this weather has not pushed everything by us. I hope to get out in the morning and see what my other areas have in store. Good luck and happy turkey day.

I have see 5 groups of geese flying high. Heard a large amount of snow geese last night in the dark as I was getting off of work. There is not much public land in Southern Johnson County where I have been doing most of my hunting. I have access to four different private ponds and some of the river. I grew up in the area so I know many land owners. I also take my Nephew along and people are a lot better about access when you have a kid along. He loves to hunt. I get off of work at noon tomorrow and plan to set up to try and get some migrating birds that afternoon and them hopefully hunt my honey hole pond Thurs. morning one last time before it freezes. Should be some good hunting the next few days if the birds don’t fly on by.

Went out this morning and saw a lot of duck at our honey hole. We had a three person limit by 7:30. Some of the ducks looked like new ducks. I hope I get a chance to go out and hunt this location at least one more time before freeze up. It is going to get cold Tue. and Wed. so I hope it is still open on thursday morning. It is a deep pond but the level is dropping. I have been seeing some more geese in the area but I think that they might still be mostly locals as they don’t get to much pressure. Next week should be a good one.

Well like a dummy back to Packer we went, along with 5 other groups and it was pointless just like the previous days. Tons of high flyin ducks early so maybe we got another push of birds but these dudes were high and lined out, had one flock of geese come over about 40 yards high should of hammered down on em but let them go and off they went and that was about it, one single got killed on the west lake and that was it for the killin.

Decided to hit Packer this morning and i wasnt the only one, got there fairly early and one group already set up another sittin there waitin and us, then 5 more vehicles come in 2 stayed and hunted the west lake and the rest left. There was a good number of ducks around of all species, we ended up with 9 between 3 of us should of had a limit but missed a few and 3 sets on the east lake is a bit much, talked to 2 groups of friends that hunted table and they all shot 3 man limits with one group takin mostly mallards. Alot more geese than the weeks before, i would say 200 or so on packer this morning and several groups of little guys comin from the river or morrill which was good to see, table guys said they saw decent numbers also, so there here get out and get em!
