Cloudy, Accumulating Snow – Froze Out
Been a tough week. Hunted wednesday in -17. picked up 3 ducks. Hunted yesterday and today, as a group we picked up 10 ducks. No geese. River just too shelfed out to be safe for dog or man.

Saw 4 pintail drakes. Don’t see them alot here.

It’s picked up on the ducks and dropped off on geese. Not many mallards, shooting mostly gadwalls and widgeon. Weekend we pick up 2 geese ,one of them banded, today only saw one flock headed east no shots.

Not much around yet, still alot of open water. I’ll hit the river on Saturday and then maybe one of the local reservoirs on Sunday.

We did kill some widgeons last Saturday and I saw a few Golden eyes which is about 6 weeks early for them to be showing up.

Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water
Went out for first time of year. Cold weather froze up small waterholes. Late afternoon hunt. Flushed birds off and back shoot. Two of us ended up with 3 nice mallards and 6 mixed teal(one sweet green wing drake). Mallards went out to feed and bulk of them came back after we quit. Took two boys too young to shoot had a blast. Best part, hunting budy cleaning the birds while I post. Thanks Mose

Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 0-10 Degrees – Open Water
Finished up the season with Carpy and 1 Cup. We saw ducks at first light and had chances at geese, but ended up with nothing. Even though a we put a major effort in trying to recover a cripple goose that had enough left in the tank to make it to a gravel pit about a 1/2 mile away.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 60-65 Degrees
Did a afternoon hunt with Carpy and his son. What weird weather. January and 60+ degrees. Didn’t see a single duck but did have several large flocks of geese fly by.

We weren’t really set up for geese so the most we could do was get them to look at us as they flew by. Carpy says they we’re laughing so hard at my calling that they were having trouble flying.

It didn’t matter. Time spent in the blind with friends is always time well spent.

its a late post but we shot some geese last week. poor shooting and poorer pit management cost us alot of birds. more new geese and weather to aid this weekend. hey perro you can post and you can hunt over here any day. let me know only 31 days left here.
