Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 30-34 Degrees – Ice
The usual number of snows too high to bother with. Large numbers of Canadas, mostly flying from the North to the South towards the prison. Generally showed no interest in our spread.

Moderate numbers of Mallards. Most showed great caution and one had to remain completely still and call very softly to get any of them to decoy. Many hunters around us sky busting, which added to the skittishness of the birds.

All of this made for a very modest day of hunting.

Northeast Of Leipsic 11-24-2008 17:33
Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 25-30 Degrees – Ice
Birds never flew in the early am. Plenty of Canada’s in the air but then the duck flight started around 10am. Pretty good amount of mallards in the area. Good day had by all.

Arctic Blast – Froze Out
Figured that I would help everyone out with what is going on. Saw a deer hit on route 1 at the split going northbound. Didn’t look like he had much of a chance. A couple of dead Canada’s on Corporate Commons that appeared to be hit by a car. Why not just fly across the road? They have wings. I think the cold weather has finally pushed out all of the sea gulls. Not many flying around the Burger King parking lot even on a busy Saturday. Observed a few hundred lady bugs flying around in the backyard. Must be a late hatch. Thought I saw signs of life on Waterfowler but then I realized it was just a Viagra pop up ad. The guy down the street has added a few more goats to his collection, maybe a season will open on them one day. More and more sparrows have been migrating south. Time to hit the sunny shores of Florida I guess. Well I will keep you posted on an further developments.

Langs Marsh 10-30-2008 19:09
Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 40-45 Degrees
Picked near the end, hunted along the river on opening day and only shot 4 teal. Hardy any teal flight. Had a few fella’s taking some real long shots in area, scared of the only working birds of the day.

Smyrna Area 10-24-2008 20:21
Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 35-40 Degrees
Did not get a good pick at the lottery. 46 parties which I did not expect. Due to the weather, we decided to try the lottery. Not many ducks where I was hunting. Tons of shooting on the marsh towards Leipsic. When I say tons, I mean more than I have heard in that aread for over 10+ years for sure.

The ditch was impassable to Blinds 30 & 31.

Very little shooting around the entire area. Groups I spoke to shot one to three birds.

Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – Over 70 Degrees
Saw hundreds of Canada Geese, now the season is out.

Saw few shootable teal. Saw a few large flocks late in the morning. There are a few wood ducks in the marsh. No large ducks at all.

Kent County…DE 09-26-2008 08:07
Cloudy, High Winds – 60-65 Degrees
Took a stab at running traffic on resident birds. Probably not the best idea on birds that are conditioned to the area year round on specific flight paths and destinations, but it was great to get afield. Saw a few flocks of the big ol’ residential birds, but nothing spectacular. Combine that with a few smatterings of ducks here and there and it was a fun morning.

Bring on October…
