I have been chasing ducks since I was knee high to a grass hopper. I have shot hundreds of birds over the years. In all of those years I have shot 1 black duck. This year I was lucky enough to shoot 2. This one is going on the wall. From googling images, I am pretty sure it is a drake.

Nice bird does your mother still carve dec’s?

    Dirt Clods Die Too

Looks like a drake, DU. Tough to tell with the snow on his beak, but looks yellow… a drake mallards.

I just got one back from the taxidermist. I’ve got 2 of them on the wall. If I can remember how to down load pics, I’ll post it.

    Swamp Gas

Looks good DU. I’ve shot 3. None are on the wall and I regret not mounting any of them.

It does have the yellow bill and I wish I would have thought to remove the snow before the picture. I was unaware that the bill was one of the main factors in figuring out if it is a drake or hen but learned after doing some googling and looking it up.

No my mom does not carve decoys. She makes hand made Christmas cards.

    Very cool!

Shot 2. Both of them up there on the Iowa side of the Mississippi……
