It has gotten a little colder this week. Looks like it will be cold this weekend as well with a chance of snow sat. night and sunday. lets cross our fingers and hope for that.
The last few days the geese have not been working any of my fields in the morning but in the evening is a different story. There are 2000+ geese in 3 different fields this evening. I am not sure what the difference is. I am wondering if they are going north in the morning off of the river then coming south in the evening. that is all i can figure….
Looks like there might be some afternoon sets going on this weekend.. just makes it hard to scout for the next day.

Well lets all do a snow dance and hope for some clouds over the weekend.

Well the hunting was ok over last weekend. we shot a limit of geese on sat. and only got one bird on sunday. seems like they are getting a little wise to the decoys.
As for this week, yesterday there were geese all over my farm. thousands of the darn things. even a coule thousand snows.
Hopefully they will stay around for this coming weekend.
Sounds like the rest of the week it is going to stay cold in the 30’s with some fog. Lets cross our fingers and try to end the season with a couple good weekends.
Good luck.

Well i feel like i have not posted forever. The Goose hunting has been pretty good not excelent. It is all about scouting. you have to find where the birds have been and still want to be. We have a little weather hitting us we have been getting rain almost everynight with the occasionl snow flury. has not been cold enough to stick however.
This weekend should be good, there have been a lot of geese even some snows starting to use some of my corn fields. we will just have to get out there and see if the things want to come in.
Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Siltcoos 01-05-2008 21:22
Cloudy, Rain & Thunderstorms – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water
We hunted Siltcoos today. Pretty stiff wind had some guys waiting at the dock to launch and with lightning and thunderstorms it was a pretty hair raising ride out to the south end. The temp was cold, at one point we had hail so thick it looked like snow on the ground. The wind was out of the south and the birds were flying in really strange patterns. There was a huge number of guys on the lake today, more than I can remember in a long time and the birds were pretty spooky. The pass shooting was ok, but very few birds actually attempted to land in the decoys. We did some some cans, but for the most part it was Bluebills. We ended up with 2 limits of Drakes and for the most part pass shooting was the name of the game. Many guys at the dock all had the same story to tell, hard to get them to decoy and avoiding the points of land. It rained hard on us today and for the first time all season, I really felt like I was duck hunting old school weather wise. Had a great time, saw some old friends on the dock and can’t wait to go back.

Salem/Dayton 01-04-2008 16:18
Cloudy, High Winds – 40-45 Degrees
Thursday hunted around the Dayton area for a afternoon hunt, ended up with 2 teal and 1 mallard, not many birds moving. Today we hunted around Salem ended up with 2 mallards, 4 widgeon, 1 woody and 3 sponnies. Either the wind had a few moving or some new birds may have come into the area.We have not shot many widgeon or spoonies this year.

Willamette Valley 12-28-2007 12:36
Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 35-40 Degrees
Well, I’ve a bummer week. Hunted 3 times this week in the valley and it was pretty slow. I scratched out one bird, Widgeon. Hope folks are having a better week than I am. Heading for the coast in the morning, I hear good things about the bluebills and Canvasback are flying around as well.

For those interested I posted retriever training tips in the forum. Happy hunting.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Mine started out on friday. We hunted a corn field and limited out on geese and got 11 mallards between 2 of us. It was perfect weather. overcast and a little breeze.
On saturday it was a different story. Sunny and bright. Only got 3 geese. Most of the geese would lock up and circle and fly on by. no flares just not very interested. They almost seem like they are a little educated.
Sunday almost the same thing. 2 geese in the morning. then i took my wife out in the afternoon and we managed to get 3 more geese and a few mallards.

Looks like weather is going to warm back up this week and we will get some rain. Might slow the birds down for this next weekend.
Hopefully they will get another big front to come through up north and keep pushing the birds down.
Good luck to everyone that gets to go out this week.
