So I’m sitting watching the river roll by last night and here comes a flock of 25-30 greenheads flying up the river. The season is just about here, I can smell it in the air…..getting excited now…

New Season 09-21-2008 10:34
Cloudy, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
Our season is fast approaching. Next weekend is the youth hunt. Time to break out the new gear, clean up the old gear and clean the calls….

September goose was pretty good to me. Lots of geese in the valley and had flights daily coming up the river. I’m disappointed in the bluebill limits but there is always next year.

Have fun….

Well here we go again. It all starts next weekend for me. Archery opener on sat 30th. Dove opener on monday 1st, and sept goose on the 6th.

Hope everyone has there dogs ready and stocked up on shells for dove season

Now to waterfowl….
There have been a big group of geese hitting a wheat stubble field on the neighbors property now for about 3 weeks. 1000+ birds. going to try and talk my way on to that field for sept hunt. Other than haveing some private land with geese on it your options for sept. goose are limited.

As for the main season they are going to open it up a week earlier this year. normaly the opener is the week after they open quail season and opens the same day as pheasant. This year as i am sure you know they ar opening goose and duck on Oct. 11 and pheasant Oct. 18, they are also going to let us kill 6 of the white ones this year (Snow geese). That is a good thing i have been seeing more and more every year.

Well i hope everyone gets out there and dust the guns off and kill a few doves.

Also dont forget to put in for reservations for McCormick slough by Sept. 5th.. good luck

WEll there are still alot of geese using the farm.. mostly small cans and also a group of about 1000 snow geese have been here since the end of the season.. one day there on our farm the next there down at McCormick.
I have kinda moved into fishing mode and have been catching a few walleye and sturgeon..
Then i got dragged back into waterfowl mode yesterday when i orderd my new decoy trailer. 7x 16 enclosed now it is time to start building shelfs and get some decals on it. well i guess i am never done goose hunting..

We finished out the season on Sunday in a blizzard…..
Had a really good shoot in a corn field.
2 of us limmited out on mallards and got one little bonus goose that couldnt resist us.. we were standing in the decoys.. 2 big brown spots in the middle of a snow field and he just fell in.. luckily i had a gun in my hands.
As for the ducks they were coming in big groups.. 100+. fun shoot.. .my buddy got his first ever limmit on ducks….
Well i guess we will start saving up and getting ready for next year.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 10-20 Degrees – Open Water
Had a great shoot last night. decided to take the afternoon off and set up in a corn field that there had been a few ducks and geese working for the last couple days…
Got set up about 1pm and had a limit of both geese and ducks by about 330.
all big geese and 6 Green heads and 1 Drake Pitail.
This cold weather is really forcing the ducks to head to corn to feed. should make for a great last weekend to the season…

As for water around here. it is all frozen. I went to McCormick yesterday moring and no one was hunting the slough. it is froze up. there were some peole hunting the fields for geese but i am not sure how they did.. i cant imagine they did great this late in season out of pits that have been hunted all season long… who knows might surprise me…
Well good luck the last weekend.

Sunday was great . We got some good goose hunting weather, snow wind nasty …. just perfect.
We hunted a corn field and 3 of us limited on geese. as soon as it started to snow the ducks startedd to come.
There was some pretty poor shooting but we ended up with 14 ducks. moslty mallards but we did pick up a pintail a piece.

This week looks like it is going to stay cold. hopefully we can get some clouds to move in and make it good for the weekend.

Good luck on our last week of hunting.

Lower Valley 01-20-2008 22:20
Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water
Been a bit slow in the valley down here. I have started seeing more mallards the past few days and the typical geese flocks. I’m ramping up for the final week. Knock em dead out there.

Hunted a corn field this morning. Geese worked really well and had 3 limits by about 930. great shoot had all big geese and one little bonus duck.
Looks like the wind today is going to push in some clouds. hopefully it will keep the birds low in the moring.
Lets all hope for a good shoot.

casey,

i hunt just north of you on columbia crest’s farm. weve been shooting geese out of corn. the cacks and snows seem to be hitting the winter wheat in the morning. but mid day and evening has been the ticket for big geese. they are flooding in here. last saturday we had limits early because the weather FINALLY cooperated.
well good luck!
