Have been a member for the past few years but unless reporting conditions & user participation improves….will be my last. Not sure why but I lay the blame on those hunters who don’t report cause they are hoping the next guy does. And when he doesn’t they just just move on to greener pastures until they find what they are looking for. Information is a major component in our sport-no information is the nail in the coffin of this web site…lets keep it around for a while.

Ok-guess I’ll kick it off. Windy conditions with periods of rain. Scouted Upper Klamath Lake & found numbers to be down despite current weather conditions. Seems the northern birds have yet to arrive but should not be long now as divers have already made their appearance, although not in great mumbers. Lake water levels have risen over a foot in the past week which have filled inland bays near Hanks Marsh. Opener is over & now its a grind…but it could be worse.
To the Hunt!

Sorry it has been a few weeks since my last post.

The birds are here. It has gotten very cold as i am sure everyone knows and it has pushed alot of birds into the are both ducks and geese.
Most of the ponds in the area are now freezing over.
Yesterday evening we hunted the local refuge and the slough is mostly froze over and i am sure with the forcast for the next week it will be froze up.
We had a small open hole and the birds really like it. lots of mallards and pintails flying in huge groups. couple hunred in each flock.

If you can find some open water or hunt the river you should have pretty good succes.
There geese have really showed up this week in big numbers. lots of small geese coming off the river right after day light and the honkers are waiting till mid morning like normal. I heard lots of shooting this weekend on the refuge fields .. I hear that they did pretty well on both ducks and geese.
Keep your coat on and shoot straight. should be a good time to get out there if you can brave the cold. Good luck.

Three of us hunted yesterday, in my opinion there are fewer birds in the area than in years past at this time of year. Most of the birds seemed decoy shy and call shy. When a breeze would pick up the birds worked better. We stopped hunting at 2;00pm with 13 mallards, 1 pintail and 3 geese. Could of done worse. Always nice ot go over east.

Well had a pretty good weekend. Sat. hunted the local refuge and was 2nd to last pick almost all the blinds had been taken but i took a river blind anyways. i was only able to hunt till 10 and ended with 4 green heads a ringneck and 2 honkers. of course when i was picking up the mallards were startgin to really fly.

Sunday i had a field with about 100 geese in it the night before and decidedto go after them. they came in just as i had hoped and shot my limmit right off the bat then waited for 2 friends to shoot theres. 3 flocks later the ended with 1 each. total of 6 geese.

The mallards and the geese are really showing up now. i think with this weather staying the way it is should make for some good hunting in the weeks to come.
Good luck to everyone.

I haven’t had a lot of time to get into duck hunting yet this year, been real busy with deer season and have the coast elk season coming up this weekend. I have been watching the rivers down here and we seem to have good numbers of birds available. A guide friend of mine hit Siltcoos this past weekend and their were very good bird numbers. The Coho fisherman keep the birds moving on the lake this time of year so shooting should be good. One more week and big game is finished and the bird hunting kicks in full time. Can’t wait….
