been hunting this wildlife refuge all season! hunted it about 35 times so far. they have a north side which is leved compartments and the south side which is off of Kieth lake. Duck are plentyful on the south side. killing tons of teal bw and gw, gadwall and the occasinal pintail or mallard, or wigeon. like i said i have hunted it atleast 35 times with two or three guys and only once came out without the limit. and we are in the center of the flooding where the hurricane hit Port Arthur. we have hundreds of thousands of ducks here and they been here since before the split!

This site has hurt ever since Hurricane Ike.
The majority of it’s hunters were/are in SE Texas.
Since the storm driving in all the salt water and killing the marshes, hunting in that area is almost dead.
It will come back, bit it will take several more years.

The last ten days of the first split brought some mallards in, but still not a large amount of ducks around. A few large flats of water holding some pintails, but still need a real cold front on this full moon. It seems if the ducks get here, they will stay given all the water.

Early season has been awful. A few woodies, a few gadwall..that’s it. Lots of water, no big ducks! It is so pretty that the ones that are here just sit in the sun and swim. We need the middle of the country to get real cold. Hell, its mild in Canada.
