Area west of Farmington Bay closed? 08-31-2006 12:03
– – –
I was reading one of the posts and apparently they have closed the area in Centerville through Farmington for the Legacy project. Not only does that suck but it is going to change my opening day plans…Are some of the entrances that lead to the bay closed?
Another issue…..lots of geese. Getting excited.

Looking forward to Cabelas this weekend.

Hey Braden, Kurt–some water out in Farmington Bay looks good, but really dry in areas there also..Maybe we could recomment they release some chukars or pheasants out in some of the units that are dry and they could start promoting some upland bird hunting.. any water in the areas you guys are scouting?? Lots of teal and some bigger birds also in part of unit 2…And the Legacy Highway Jerks finally did their treachery–closing all the area west of Centerville up to Fmgtn Bay’s property..This was an area I’ve hunted and enjoyed for many years, took many youth to, shot my first banded bird at, and my dog did her first duck retrieve at…Many local hunters were robbed..Legacy stinks..Amen
I’ll still take some kids ou for the youth opener, but not there again..and yes, I would favor some type of early teal season, even if it’s just the kids getting a chance at them by having their day 2 weeks earlier than ours, instead of 1 week like it is now..Good luck on the dove opener..things are starting now..CUL –JOE

Early teal season 08-26-2006 22:25

I am all for an early teal season in September. I also really like Joe’s idea of having the youth hunt 2 weeks before the regular opener instead of just 1 week. I don’t know if it is a coincidence or not, but the openers I have been on for about the last 5 years have been poorer than I remember. It may have just been because of the drought. Either way, I have high hopes for this years opener.

Early Season Teal Hunt
What do you guys think of a early season Teal hunt in Utah. If we had a 4 day season Teal only in the first week of September, we would loose 4 days in January, or we could have a split season like with Geese and take 4 days out in the middle of the season. That would give us 4 days to kill Blue Wings that are long gone when our season starts.
Let me know your opinion. Kurt

Hey Kurt — Sounds like fun..Sep.9th is also a youth day out at Farmington Bay, with some Delta people there for training, and some airboaters are supposed to be there for rides also..sure hope you have some good people there for the work, as that sounds like a very legit project. Good luck — JOE

Hey Braden and Kurt–Good to know you’re still out there, don’t know where everyone else is..Maybe we can stay in touch and actually do a hunt together this year…I think both the youth hunt and gen. opener should be a week earlier. If they can’t do the gen. opener a week earlier, I think at least the youth may have a better chance at some bw teal, and then we’d have 2 full weeks for the bird population to settle down again. That’s what I’d really like to see, as the Youth Hunt tends to send the bw teal packing, and I don’t think there’s any way they’d put the youth hunt at the end of the season like they do in some other states…..You guys been to any Utah Waterfowl Association meetings or events this Summer? ,,,CUL — JOE

I completely agree with opening the season a week earlier. Blue wings are a great game bird that we all but miss out on most years. It might just be me, but as the season goes into January, it seems that the birds and open water are very few and far between. I think it would be much better to use that week when there are more birds in the area.

Utah Waterfowl Season 07-28-2006 15:45

Season dates are set. Liberal framework which means 107 days in the marsh and 7 birds per day. With a starting date of October 7 most of the Blue Wings will already be gone what is your opinion of moving things back one week so we have a shot at the Blue Wing Teal. One week is as far back as we can move but that would give us one week to shoot at the 5.4 Million Blues before they move south. What are your thoughts. Kurt
