Curdawg,

Sounds good…did you see any geese yet? WE’re going to try Topock again this year ON Nov 12 (FRiday). Shoot me a pm or email on the 8th or 9th with any updates you have on bird concentrations…or let’s get together that day…We’ll have a full boat, (3guys + dog), but we can work something out I’m sure. I’ll buy you dinner in Bullhead the night before if you come up. Let me know….Rob

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 45-50 Degrees
Went for the first time saturday 10/30/04. Took the young boy with me so was out of the marsh by 8:30am and sat up late right at day break. At frist I had no expectations of seeing or even shooting. Man was I wrong. Had good variety of brids from teal to mallards. Birds working the call wanting to sit in the decoys. I can’t believe the amount of brids for this early in the season. I just couln’t keep my son from moving or talking loud. But, still I enjoyed him being with me.

I only put out 7 decoys (took 3 dozen) and spaced them about 5 feet from each other in a circle that seemed to work.

Saw some really nice flocks working the east side of the marsh but really high. Looked like they been shot at everyday.

See ya saturday moring

Shot 3 honkers, 3 snows, 7 drake mallards and then my alarm clock went off. Hunted Saturday shot a mixed bag for 7 total 1 wig, 1 shoveler,5 teal had to hunt all day to get those. Hunted Sunday morning and did not fire a shot, a few birds landing out in the open water and the refuge, some high flyers but nothing would come within shooting range. Hope it picks up soon. Don’t know if I should try to put out a huge spread or keep it small? Did any body else have any luck at Topock?

Never made it up to scout the Virgin river decided to go further north and hunt Sunnyside for Nevada openers. Lots of birds shot a limit the first day, sounded like a war zone for the first two hours. Second day 30mph + winds birds piled up in the middle of the open water, only shot 3 birds. Hopefully we pushed all the birds down south towards us. Going to try CRIT sunday but don’t know where to go, nobody is willing to give up any spots. When does goose open in CRIT?

Rustyduck,

Saw the same flock Canadians down by Havasu Springs on the Bill WIlliams River last week!!!!!!!

As for scouting the the River in Havasu and Topock, I have seen a lots of divers and a good few size flock of widgens, over the past few weeks. A lot more local Green Heads than in the past, We really had a good hatch this year. (I think the brids know that ELNINO is back.)The temps are still in the upper 90’s to low 100’s, but the weather is cooling off up north and the water temps have dropped some 10 to 12 degrees in the River (WINTER IS COMING), and season opens real SOON.

Good Hunting and see u in the marsh.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
Hey Hoo All waterfowler.com’ers, I’m real excited to report that 25 big Canada Honkers flew over our house, located near Catfish Bay, at 11:30am today!!! In talking to my cuzin in law, she saw them on the water whie fishing near Havasu Landing Resort on Wednesday. They were heading back north towards Castle Rock and hopefully my Son Rio and I will get a crack at them opening wknd..As for our season past, it was great. January ’04 was the best hunting I ever experienced here in 24 years!!! Memories of old glory days were rekindled with lots of Drake G.W.Teal and Greenheads!!! A final wknd. season tally of 14 ducks and that final friday, I harvested my first limit day of the season. Most important to me, I shared most of these thrilling times with my Son Rio. With one Ross’s, One Honker, and 65 ducks, we were very blessed by God, my father Chris Sandate, and my Dear Hunting Pals up in the “Great Marsh In The Sky”. May this Waterfowl season be a safe and fruitful one for you all!!! P.S. Rio and I are dedicating this season to the memory of our dear and good hearted(5 Mile Landing Rusty) friend’s yellow Lab “Doc”, who went to that “Great Marsh in the Sky” this past spring. A great retriever that we miss too much, Doc’s memories will endure all the rest of our hunting days ahead!!!

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
Since I had a new dog & my son with me, I opted out of hunting the “hot” fields this year in favor of a small field very close to town where we limited on the first three days by 7:30. Only 2 other hunters seen in 3 days. There was a full canal nearby for the dog & some shade trees for my dad & father inlaw, so it worked out great. Didn’t make it out again though. Will be out for the duck opener in October.

Rembo,
Haven’t seen the CRIT regs. yet, but won’t be there until the 9th. I usually don’t get into Parker area until right after Thanksgiving as I’m in South Dakota from Oct 1 until Nov. 10 chasing upland , hit the waterfowl after Halloween. Usually have a few hundred thousand geese and 50 or 60 thousand misc. ducks hit about then on their way through. I’m headed to Alberta mid Sept. for waterfowl. I’m going to try and buck the weather on the Sea of Cortez one more time for big blue Marlin on Aug 17-20. Small group of 8 or so. If your bored, come on along. If not, hope to see you Dove season. Always enjoy meeting new outdoor guys.

I may be there that weekend…will definetly be there on the 1st…a couple of my pastors at church want to go hunting, but I don’t have room for them on the opener so I may bring them out that weekend. Did you see this years waterfowl regs for CRIT yet? Sounds like a good spring hunt, we may be interested in going with you this year. Nebraska, right?

Mr. Curry,

Yeah, I have to say it seems to be getting a little hotter. I can’t complain though. Can’t weight I think it is down to 59 days till the opener in North Dakota. I have 24 Decoys sitting in my garage, the rest are up north with my boat. I plan on bringing it down here to get over to Topoc and give that a try. Just wondering if the cheaper plastic decoys will get damaged with all the heat? The only problem I have is hunting up north was on smaller marshes, only needed a little 3.5 horse. Will that work over at topoc. Just want to get the dog and my father out enjoy the morning and get a few shots in and hopefully some birds. I can’t say how excited I am. The daughters get bigger each day. I don’t know when they will fit the camo outfits we got them so they can come with. Have to make it a family thing. Well good luck fishing.

Well this is all new to me. Last year I didn’t get to hunt since my wife was pregnant with twins(2 little girls, 9 weeks old.) 1st season missed in 32 years of life. But, was given a green light to get back to what I love by my wife. I have two 5 day trips to north dakota planned in October and a 4 day hunt in Arkansas end of November 1st December. We moved down here last September from Minnesota and I am looking forward to getting to hunt down here as well. I can’t wait to see the sun come up and hear wings cutting air. So how good will the hunting be down here? Mr. Curry has been good enough to give me some pointers but a new spot is hard to figure out. Just looking for imput i guess.

Rembo,
took almost 400 snows in Ne. early March in two weekends. Superb! Just booked Alberta for mid Sept. Been in Mx. fishing for 5 weeks, heading back to East Cape tonight. Last trip. Outstanding big game fishing this summer in Sea Of Cortez. Looking forward to maybe hooking up with you this fall. I’ll be in Parker with 50 dove hunters on Sept. 10-12 at the Kofa. Stop by for lunch on the 11th at noon at Kofa Inn. Should be a good crowd of 50 or so.

Was out playing golf this past weekend and from the time we tee off till the fourth or fifth hole we had a ton of dark and lite geese flying over heading north. It seems that the weather up north is still to cold and snowy for them to move this soon. Since this past weekend I have not seen them, But have been out side at like 9pm having a smoke and hear brids honking over my head, but not as big as the flocks were Saturday.

Got out of bed early to beat the traffic in. Put the dog in the back of the truck and went back in the house for one reason or another and came out the dog was gone, the day was starting out great. looked for him for 45 min. or so and left without him. last day of the season. frist time in 3 years I hunted by myself. did ok got 2 teal and 2 gadwall, should of had more but i felt I would have lost them in the reeds. But all in all not a great season but not a bad one either. scale of 1 to 10 an I give it a 6. Hope to see you guys in texas for the spring hunts.
