Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
Well another early season gone. Ended up getting a dozen birds. Not bad for the few places I have available to hunt. Sure were tastey. Ten-CT, One-VT, One-NH. Well no time to rest now, have duck decoys to paint, have to finish the lay-out boat, have to fix up the blind on the big boat. Work, work, work.(all in the name of fun.)See you on the water.

starving for blood there are alot of good hunting spots for geese around the Hamden area…..I know a few farms around there and once the corn is down it is like a slaughter…….your best bet might be to head down to the coast or in a major river…i know a lot of good spots if you are interested

Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 50-60 Degrees
Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on Waterfowling Connecticut. I just moved here from Iowa and am attending college in Hamden. Most of the places I’ve been have been pretty urban, but some have told that there are some rural areas. I can’t believe the goose numbers in the cities. Just scouting around, looking for a reason to bring some equipment out for next season. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Did I misread, is your limit five Canadas a day?

Waterfoul Assisn,

I believe the AP zone is closed due to the “real” migratory geese using that portion of the state to fly. The NAP does not see as many migratory birds and has a larger domestic population.
AP stands for the area in Canada that the migratory birds fly from.
The “n” in the NAP stands for Non-AP.
Hope this helps, good luck and be safe.

Just a short reminder. Check the regs before you decide on a shot size or type. I know I expound the greatness of Hevi-Shot, but as of this date it is not legal here in CT. Just because it is approved by the Feds doesn’t mean it’s legal here. The state legislature has to write it into law and specify the shot type by name (What it is made out of) to make it legal here. Good luck and I’ll see you in the blind. Mike

Farm Pond 09-18-2001 19:40
Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – Over 70 Degrees
Still no luck! Hunted Farm Pond: goose tracks/feathers all over, still no birds. One big flock of 60-80 birds went by too far out and low to flag. Need some corn cut and hunters to move ’em around. One more chance Saturday.

I haven’t had a chance to get out this year yet. The dog is awfully mad at me over that one. I hear about some guys taking a few birds, but it doesn’t seem to be as good as it was last year. I did get a chance to get out and build up the blind and saw a few birds early on, but not as many flying over as last year in my spot anyway. Hope to have a better report in the very near future. Good luck and I’ll see you in the blind! Mike
