Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 50-60 Degrees
General_Steve,

Just got back from SD pheasant hunt. AWESOME!! And the birds are stacking in up there. We saw over 10,000 mallards, snows, and canada geese tornado into a small 100 acre pond. INCREDIBLE!

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water
Hunted lowel last weekend. Lots on the north side but nothing decoyed in on the southside. Anyone know where all the birds are at.

New to the forum and the website, interested in hunting with people on reservation and any info on it apparently was in wrong area yesterday and got a warning for it not very good instructions from wildlife management area where obtained permit, not as many birds on the river as thought there would be. to that effect not many anywhere.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 50-60 Degrees
Well, tried 3 times in the last week and finally found birds willing to decoy today. There are thousands of mallards flying high after shooting hours. They are headin to fields and there are lots of places to roost and loaf. Today the birds seemed easier to decoy in the loafing areas and now I know why. I shot a banded drake mallard today and I would dare bet it is a northern. One large flight of tundra swans flew over and I heard cranes 3 different times. They too were very high, meaning new birds are coming in.

GET READY!!!! THE FLIGHT IS COMING!!!

Cloudy, Rain & Thunderstorms – 40-45 Degrees
Forgot to mention the youth opener. Not much action. Great duck hunting weather. THe birds were flying but not wanting to decoy. The kids shot at a few passing over but could not get many to finish. They shot a few boxes of shells and had good food and hot drinks. Lots of fun and worth every minute.
TAKE A KID DUCK HUNTING!!! It means the future to our passion!!

North Fork Snake River 10-11-2007 13:31
Cloudy, Snow & Rain Mix – 40-45 Degrees
What an opener!!!
3 of us hunted on Public lands and limited in 2.5 hours. I love to limit but that is not important or why I go. The bird action was amazing. Large groups (up to 50 birds) were diving in and working through the clouds and rain/snow. I harvested one goose and 6 mallards, , 8 widgeon, 3 gadwalls, 3 GW teal, and 1 bull pintail. Great fun and I am seeing a ton of birds flying today (10/11/07).
HAPPY HUNTING!

Season is getting close! Yeah that was me that posted the pictures of me getting in my boat.

Scouting Report: I don’t like to give my spots up so I’ll just say that we were on the Snake between Twin Falls and Marsing. We started running upriver around 9:00 a.m. we were just seeing big groups of coots at first. Nothing to get that excited about. As we got closer to our spot we started seeing small groups of blue winged teal. The farther we got the more we saw, around every bend was a group of at least 10 or 15. Kind of unusual to see this many but I’m sure they’ll all be gone before the opener. After we went a couple miles we approached some agricultural fields. On this stretch of river we started seeing groups of mallards and larger ducks. I don’t think they were feeding here in these fields because they’re all still green, I think they were just sitting on this stretch of river. Altogether we ran about 5 miles up there and I’m guessing we saw about 50 mallards and 75 or a hundred teal. We didn’t see any geese but that’s not uncommon for this area.

Only about another month to go and we can start dropping the hammer. Well I won’t but my friends and family will, but I will be doing all of the calling and running the jerk string. And of course making Lakota take a straight line. He saw a flock of geese the other day flying towards us and instinctively came and heeled by my side. Just making me proud.
