Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water
Not a huge amount of birds moving this morning, but some good action regardless. More geese than ducks. Saw mostly mallards with a few woodies and teal mixed in. Teal flew high over my spread and out of range, while the woodies were flying just before shooting time. Took a nice mallard drake and big, banded canada. Good hunting.

Hunted yesterday morning, we had a great morning flight. We saw a mixed bag of birds mallards, woodies, teal, blacks and a lot of divers we do not normally see in this spot. We ended up with eight for the morning. Got the dog some good work. The blind we hunted out of was not very dog friendly she was only able to mark two of the birds, the rest she was handled too. Good luck to all. Tim

Got out this morning for a wild time in the blind. Southeast winds blowing right in our faces. Consistent flights of birds today but boy did they want to keep flying. We even had three black ducks circle us NINE times before going on. Less woodies seen today but more teal. One flock of geese. All told we saw around 60 birds total.

The birds that did decoy today decoyed well and were all mallards. Ended with three mallards in the bag. Picture of my big drake in the gallery.

I hunted with my Dad today for our last hunt of the first half of the coastal season. There were not many birds around despite the windy conditions. We saw 15-20 ducks all day mostly teal, blacks and a few mallards. My Dad got one greenwing teal.

first week reports:

10/16
I hunted on the coast for the opener with my Dad. Lots of birds and lots of hunters. When we arrived at the ramp at 5 am there were already 10 other rigs there. The first hour was a blast with birds everywhere. We had a good day with me getting 3 greenwings, a black and a hen pintail. My first pintail ever. My Dad got 2 greenwings and a black.

10/17
I hunted the coast again this day with my Dad. Not nearly as many birds or hunters this day. We missed some shots at blacks and teal and also had to pass up on several shots as we do not have a dog.

10/18
I did an afternoon hunt this day with my Dad in central MA. It was around 70 degrees this day with no wind so it was very slow. We saw a handful of mallards, geese and wood ducks but did not fire any shots.

Overall the first week was very good.

Managed to get out this morning for a hunt. Not a ton of birds around but enough to stay excited. The mallards were giving me fits today, decoying well until the last second. They were circling hard too, 3 or 4 times and gone. Looking back I should’ve shot at more mallards, I found I was second guessing distances. Winchesters’ stock also went up today.

Drake greenwing and hen woody in the bag today.

Made it home from URI @ around 230 on friday afternoon, dad had the boat all ready and we were set up by 330. We spooked some nice flocks of teal on the way in and set up a small spread of blacks and teal deeks. Between my buddy, my dad, and i, we managed to knock down 6 or 7 teal, unfortunaly we could only find 5. Got up in the morning and headed to my buddies secret marsh, we tossed out a handfull of blacks and some full body mallards. Just at shooting light a couple small groups of teal almost flew into us, followed by a pair of blacks. Overall a sick weekend, had a blast getting back onto the marsh. Next time i’ll be shooting the beretta will be in the begining of Nov for some sea duck shooting. Can’t wait until christmas break, i’ll have almost a full month to shoot ducks, and i’ll be out there almost everyday, if anyone wants to get together, send me a pm.

Good opening week in Central MA. Woodies everywhere! Even managed to bag a few but missed many as well. Failed to call in some shy Mallards this morning, but a great day in the field anyway. Good Hunting.
