Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 40-45 Degrees
Well, the birds arrived. Good numbers of Bluebills on the lake today and plenty of movement to keep them flying. We limited pretty easily today. some friends hunted the east side of the lake and pulled 3 limits and hit some Canvasback as well. Great weather with just a small squall come through and the water conditions were perfect.

Bufflehead – 1
Temp 44

Hunted Geese on saturday with some different results. We hunted the morning in a corn field and every group of geese that got off the river went straight north. we saw maybe 100 geese come our way in the morning. we decided to stay set up and see what happen. at about 230pm it was like someone opened the valve. non stop shooting till the end of shooting light.

Sunday was more normal. it cooledd down and the birds came off like they were supposed to. had a limit by 9am on all big geese.
Last night brought a little snow to the area. hopefully it will stay cool and this will stick around.
I guess we will see what happens this weekend.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 45-50 Degrees
It was a very nice day at Siltcoos, for relaxing. 🙂 There wasn’t a lot of birds on the lake, at least at our end on the south. We only had a few birds come into the decoys all day. In fact I even pulled the rig and moved, something I’ve never done there. In the end we scraped out 5 birds but it was very slow. Cruising around the lake we just didn’t see the big flocks that we normally see.

Weather – Sunny Warm
Water – Calm
Wind – NE 5mph
Temp 45-50
Bird Count – Low
Other Hunters – Good number of other hunters on the lake. There was a lot of shooing up in the north end of the lake

A big warm front moved in late sunday with temps reaching in the 60s yesterday. I had been cooped up sick for the last couple days. and i got out this morning on a scouting drive and hardly saw any geese on the farm. Thought the warm weather made them spread out.
This evening went for another drive and saw thousands of ducks and geese. Mostly small birds i am thinking there is a storm coming in from the north and the temps are supposed to be dropping over the next couple of days.
I have noticed in the past when the small birds start showing up that the hunting gets pretty hot and heavy.
If it cools down like it is supposed to we should have a pretty good weekend.
Shoot’em with there feet down.

Lots of birds on the move over the weekend. We had snow on monday night and the geese grouped up . everything came off the river in big groups. theyu were easy to decoy with everything being white. Had a group of over 1000 cans and 500 snows come in at one time. Let about 500 touch the ground. I had to video tape this because i was by myself and figured no one would believe me.
Sun. Wind came out of the south and it warmed up and melted everything off. Birds still worked good 3 of us limited early.

This morning it is raining and it is calling for wind for the next couple of days.
This will keep the birds changing there patterns as long as the weather keeps changing.
They just started hitting green fields this last week. Up until this point all of our hunting had been in the corn.
Well good luck to everyone.

Weve got SNOW!!! woke up this moring to enough snow to make the ground white. almost had to call in sick for work. nothing like getting out there and hunting the first snow of the year. seems to make the birds very easy to hunt.
Hopefully it will stay cool and we can get some more white on the ground by sat. if not i will have to take tomorrow off.
Good luck.

Fern Ridge Royal Unit 11-28-2007 14:39
Cloudy, Winds Calm – 45-50 Degrees
Hit Fern Ridge this morning. Pretty slow, few ducks flying but few and far between. Even Coyote units where quiet. Did get some shots at Geese on some adjoining property but apparently I have jerk in the end of my barrel cuz the shot fell way short. 🙂

Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend.
A good number of birds have moved in with the cold front that came through on wed.
I hunted McCormick slough on wed. afternoon and shot a limmit of ducks by about 2pm. mixed bag of mallards, Green wing, widgeon, pintail.
Thanksgiving day killed a few geese. as well as friday.
Sat took out a group and got them a limit of geese in a corn field.
Made for a pretty good weekend. all in all 9 ducks 16 geese and 3 quail. I know who isnt going to go hungry this winter.
Looks like it is going to stay cooler this week and the snow level will be dropping, should push more birds down. I think we should be set for pretty much the rest of the season.
Stay out there and shoot straight.
