Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 45-50 Degrees
First light, we had 6 mallards suck in perfectly inside decoys. knocked down three. 5 minutes later, 3 gads cuped in for their last landing. After that, NOTHING! We saw a total of 20 birds till 9:00a. No wind KIlls our spot, Oh well can’t complain, had an awesome day on Christmas. Hard to explain ducks moving all day and shuting down completely the next day.
Waiting for the next weather move

Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 35-40 Degrees
Just wanted to let you know we saw lots of gadwalls in Coon Gulf off the river today. Birds were trading a lot today with clouds and wind. We ended up with 4 limits.
On another note at Raccoon Creek WMA the water is still low below the 117 Hwy. bridge and will remain this way for the season. Below the gate phase one has normal water level thanks for pumping. However, it seems birds are not using the area from all reports. Had one good report, but about 6 sad reports seeing no birds or very few.
They did spend the money to pump up Phase II so birds may start using this area for it’s harded to access.
Good luck throught the holidays season hunting. Winter survey is due first week in January.
Be safe.
Ross

Cloudy, Rain & Thunderstorms – 35-40 Degrees
Santa came through for us. 3 hunters = 3 limits of mallards topped off with widgeons.
Also had gads, bluebills, teal, black ducks, & 6 geese show up for a show down. Could have killed 30 birds today! problem was birds were skirting decoys due to unchecked wind change on our part and we were close to limiting out.
We saw more new ducks moving today than we have seen in 3 weeks. Had 4 flights of 40 to 50 mallards cup up from the ozone layer.
Wind started out of the South west at first light and set decoys accordingly. By 8;30a wind turned westnorthwest and reset decoys. Problem solved, ducks wanted hard calling all the way to the water and Merry Christmas to our little feathered friends from the north. I could not have ask for a better Christmas present!

Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 45-50 Degrees
Hunted on the big creek this morning. Weather had warmed up today slightly, but the rescent cold had an influx of fresh ducks. Saw 15-20 greenheads and a pair of gadwalls pitch into a beaver pond off the creek edge. We limited out on woodies early. Plenty of woodies to pick from! I am going to hunt the beaver pond in the morning. It should make for a great Christmas hunt!
We have been seing GREAT numbers of canvasbacks on the big lake the past month. I can’t wait till they open.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 35-40 Degrees
On Thursday ( 12/22) we finally got in on a good hunt on the Delta. Partner & I shot 11 gadwalls and a drake goldeneye. However, it wasn’t a barrel-burner, took until lunch time. Birds trickled in all morning but anything more than singles and pairs were impossible to decoy. Scouted after the hunt & found a few birds just about everywhere but not a lot of birds anywhere. It looks like a lot of the birds we have are leaving because of the lack of food, especially out south of I-10. Some of our favorite spots out south are completely duck-less. Depressing. We finally get the weather we need to bring birds down (snow up north & drought in AR) and the hurricane destroys our food supply.

12/17 Hunted a new I saw Birds pouring into where i normally hunt had alot mallards fly in before shooting time they stand around for a hour and left got one out of the bunch..Then every half hour I had to move the boat and decoys they are pulling the water level down about a foot every couple of hours..Will moving had 3 Wood Ducks come in could’nt shoot in mud up to my waist..Did have a big Gobbler come in…
12/19 Hunted in the back of the creek got a Hooded Merg for thr wall..And a few Divers flying but far off a couple Mallards but stay at a distance…Had to leave early due to dropping the water and didn’t want to get stuck on the flat..It’s starting to be like hunting Tidal water with a outgoing tide really sucks….
12/21 Hunted in front of the house hearing alot of Gadwalls before first light but not seeing any…Managed to get a pair and a single to come in got 2..Covered up in Buffleheads..Saw some Goldeneyes and alot of Mallards to with the extreme low water levels it is hurting me on able to get covered…It has been a tough year for hunting..Alot of Geese but they got hammered during early Goose season and they stay away from Decoys…Having a good time anyways…
