Though the mercury has been stretching toward the top of many front porch thermometers, there can be little doubt that the waterfowl season of 2003 – 2004 is just around the corner.
Hello, folks, and, as always, welcome to Waterfowler.com
It may seem hard to believe with the recent heat wave still in place for much of the country, but for many North American Waterfowlers the kickoff to this year’s waterfowl season is just a few short weeks away.
In preparation, the Waterfowler.com Real Time Migration Mapping System is being warmed back up within the week. So as you are out checking blinds and doing your pre-season scouting, be sure to remember to log your observations of early migration activity on the Migration Map. Heaven knows those little blue wings can be hard enough to keep track of, so give your fellow members a hand by reporting their rapid movements.
We would like to thank all our members, old and new, who stopped by to see us at the Oshkosh DU festival. The show was a success and it is always nice to meet our members face to face.

And now, on to the long-awaited return of the Migration Report.
Well it seems like last week’s brief cool snap got a few birds thinking about departure to southern climes. Already reports are coming in from as far south as coastal Texas of small pockets of Blue Wings showing up on the marsh.
It is not unusual for a few “early birds” to hot foot it out of the north this early and these birds may be just passing through, but it does feel good just knowing that the migration is gearing up.
With another small cool down expected to move across the upper plains and Canada over the next week, more and more teal should be lining up on the taxi way, if not making lift off and moving south.
All but a few states have set their tentative waterfowl seasons and the rest should be outlined and confirmed by the end of the month. Be sure to check out your home state’s field reports page for the latest on the season to come for your area.
Teal season is less than a month away, and before we know it the first blush of fall will be in the air. We just might make it after all.
