Hunted all day Monday and Tuesday morning with not much to show for it. Very slow and nothing moving. This is usually my favorite week of the year but it is looking slim right now.

Went Canada Goose Hunting this morning, 9 people 9 limits in 15 minutes. Geese are everywhere not to many ducks around should have a great week of goose hunting ahead down here.

hunted this morning with decent results. Saw a fair number of birds and managed to take mallards, blacks, teal, pintails and canada geese. overall not a bad morning spent with friends heard some shooting in the distance but nothing to write home about,

Just in deer hunting a coule times last week I saw wood ducks in ponds surrounded by woods. Saw some big ducks in small flocks flying low over wooded areas. A marsh in Smyrna was filled with ducks.

Geese are in large number in norther New Castle County, where they cannot be hunted. Dark geese seem to be around in moderate numbers in lower New Castle. I did not see any snow geese.

One last note, the storm basins on Route One north of Smyrna were filled with teal and larger ducks around noon on Saturday.

I saw some ducks and black geese somewhere in my neck o’ the woods. Gonna go after em all of next week.

I’ll be hunting 4 days next week. you guys that know me give me a call and we’ll try to get together.

took a ride to cabelas yesterday with the boys and noticed large flocks of canadas feeding in green fields from middletown north the DE line, got into PA and noticed that most of the geese up there were in the corn fields but we still saw good numbers of geese for this time of year. There were large numbers of birds right across from middletown high school and the friendlys there in town in a green field and soybean field adjacent to it. The word up north is a few feet of snow on the ground right now so hopefully they will start to move this way,

Saw many birds from a distance. We eventually took a few mallards that decoyed in. Most of the ducks just stayed away.

Every day we see more dark and light geese. They act very uneducated, coming in low to inspect the decoys.

Large concentrations of both light and dark geese were observed. Puddler numbers seem to be increasing as the season progresses. The dark goose opener could prove to be a fun day for waterfowlers targeting the ol’ ganders. Watched a few light geese investigate a spread left out with no hunters. Coulda, shoulda, woulda…

Tons of mallards in the area compared to last week. Big groups coming out of the hook but they had their minds made up today. We scratched out a few but nothing special. Bring on Thanksgiving week because I am ready.

Gave this morning a shot for a few hours. Nowhere near as many ducks as there were last week. They were probably tired of being shot at. Managed a few mallards and a gadwall. Not a banner day but got some shooting. More and more Canadas everyday, so bring on Thanksgiving week.

Friday morning me and a few others bagged a few gwt. Not as many as we would have liked but a good time was had none the less.

Friday afternoon we hunted prime hook and only bagged ONE mallard. By the time we got there the shooting was pretty much over. The morning there produced some good numbers though.

Saturday morning we braved the 40 mph wind and rain at the hook. Didn’t have much time to hunt due to a wedding I was in. We harvested some ring necks with one being a beautiful mature drake. He would have made a nice mount but I think I’ll eat this one.

Some blinds smoked the birds while others were left scratching there heads.

If anybody would like some tips for getting to the blinds at the hook, pm me and we can talk.

I can’t wait for Friday as that will be my next day in the field.

Good job to you guys that smoked em’ and and goodluck the rest of this split.

hunted friday and saturday with decent numbers taken. large amounts of teal both days with decent numbers of blacks and mallards. was a little dissapointed in the number of pintails as we have seen much higher numbers in the past in this area. Heard of good teal shoots all over the state. Decent start tot he opener, but bring on the colder temps

Saw a decent concentration of GWT both in the AM and PM on Friday. Mallards and Blacks were around in their usual numbers, as well as a few flights of Wigeon and Pintails. The Wood Duck flight seemed a little slimmer than was previously seen during scouting missions, but they weren’t totally gone. All in all, the opening weekend was filled with good fun, good friends and good hunts.

easy said… 6 teals……got 3 0ut of 4 the first round and i myself got my first triple and yep it was on teal. 3 shots 3 teal!!! only two group of ducks that came near us all day. only one duck got away that enter the pond!!

Saw about two hundred mallards in a high flock going southeast.

We hunted Cedar Swamp this morning… There wasn’t as many birds in the air as I thought there would be. We managed only to put only two birds in the bag, 1 Greenhead and 1 Pintail. We passed on a few birds. But,I guess it could of been worse…

Just jogging around North Wilmington, the storm basins have been used by mallards. On Monday, October 23rd, the one at the Brandywine Towne Center had about one hundred mallards in it at 6am, with ducks flying all around. That basin does not usually carry that many ducks, usually ten or so.

The basin was empty on Tuesday the 24th and had a few in it this morning.

I surmise it is a sign that the cold weather is moving ducks.

At the Youth hunt, the young limited out on geese and shot a couple of teal. About twenty or so teal were spotted.

In the marshes, a fair number of mallards and quite a few woodies. Friday should be a good day.

It seems like the opener should be pretty good. As far as I can tell we have plenty of birds in the area right now. With a little luck and some decent scouting you shouldn’t have any trouble finding birds.

Did a little preseason work on Sunday morning and noticed a decent amount of birds but nothing special. Not many big ducks in the area yet which was a little disappointing. However, with clear and calm weather it is pretty hard to gauge what is really going on. I was very impressed with the number of Canada’s in the area. All of the were very “callable” but I am sure that will change when they come in next month. Friday looks like a wing and a prayer unless the weather changes. It will be a hit or miss day with more misses than hits but I do not know until we try.

My 14 yr. old son participated in DE’s Youth Waterfowl Hunt and it’s difficult to say who is smiling more: my son or me, the proud father.
He shot a drake mallard, a hen mallard (that became our conservation moment — he now understands why we should pass on those), a GW teal and a drake pintail.
Those were his first ducks ever and now I can appreciate the true beauty of the phrase “sharing the hunt.”
Special thanks to Mike N. and Brian R. — you both know your “stuff” and the advice worked like a charm!
Have never seen so many ducks and such a variety! Saw a lot of geese, but we were not set up for them. Interestingly, the party next to us shot one Canada goose and no ducks.
Christian, my son, says Thank you and can’t wait until next year.
Final comment: DE hunters & waterfowlers at the ramp, checking station,and gun shops got to be the nicest people in the world. You all don’t understand or appreciate what you have until you have hunted elswhere! Good luck to everyone on Saturday’s opener.

talked to a group of friends who hunted in new castle county for the youth hunt and had good numbers of birds seen as well as an enjoyable experience for their youth hunters which is awesome. Large numbers of teal and pintails were seen along with strong numbers of wood ducks and mallards. they managed to scratch out a canada goose as well so all in all it seems like it should be an ok opener if the birds hang around. good luck to all,

I was deer hunting friday in Harrington and had flocks of Canadas and a few ducks fly over the stand… It is rare for me to see ducks near Taber State Forest but a few were sitting in the drainage ditches.. Looks like it will be a good opener…

Have been noticing huge flocks of Canadas that are moving in. They seem to join up with the residents so it is hard to tell how many there actually are. Seems odd that this happens but there are way more geese than there have been. Hopefully the ducks are moving in as well. 11 more days.

Went today for the close of the September Teal Season. Saw a few knots of teal, but was more impressed with the number of other puddlers seen in the area regarding mallards, blacks, pintails, shovelers, wood ducks and gadwalls. We had flock after flock in and out of the decoys all morning long, which made the wait between teal flights go by faster. Saw one cut corn field that was holding a few hundred snow geese and canada geese in it as well.

hunted this morning for the early teal opener and managed to scratch out 10 for our group, we werent in the exact spot that they wanted to be in so we are going to give it to them again on saturday. birds flew well all morning saw tons of pintails and wigeons along with some mallards and blacks. even had some snow chickens come over. heard of reports for other places with decent numbers of 5-8 birds per group,

Decided to scout the morning since tomorrow is opening day. I scouted from 6:10am until 7:00 am. O teal seen, well 0 ducks of any kind for that matter. Saw a decent number of geese moving around and plenty of sea gulls. Not giving me a promising feeling for tomorrow. This is the first time in many many years that I am not sure about hunting tomorrow.

Two small flocks of geese decoyed in. Only saw about 30.

Had flights of wood ducks, blue wing teal and mallards come in. Small numbers, about 3 or 4 each.

Small numbers of doves flying also. Picked up at 9 am.

Too nice for the birds to move this morning. me and a few other wfc’s hunted a pristeen spot outside of laurel and didn’t see anything but ducks and more ducks. You have to know where the birds are and have access to them to take these birds out. Pretty smart they’ve become.
Anyway…..It’s time to start posting on the birds. Let’s here what’s up fellers.

What a difference a day makes!

We thought we had a good pattern on the resident birds on Thursday morning, but they changed their flight paths on Friday morning and we were stuck watching duck flight hoping for a goose flight that never materialized. Well now that we know the morning flight isn’t there, we’ll be doing some scouting to check out the evening flight paths to see if we can put a good dent in the population.

No geese in sight for opening day, but dozens of mallards. We had mallards decoy into our geese spread twice and had a black duck swim into our decoys, even as we stood up to watch them.

I understand that teal are in eastern zone of Kent County in large numbers, both green and blue wing.
