Gunned the marsh this morning. You know your hunting ducks when the sleet is stinging your face!!Great day to be out on the lake.We had a nice ,hot island breakfast around 4am and it was definitely the calm before the storm. Set up one group on the island with a mixed diver/puddler/goose spread while me and my cousin set out a diver rig and gunned from the boat blind. The morning started real slow but at around 7:45 it was like someone turned a switch on!We had bluebills all over the place and we even managed to drop a few. While we were out picking up birds the guys on the island had two drake cans buzz through but not a one of them was ready at the time! The weather turned miserable in short time so we packed it in.The rangers actually shut the park down as we were leaving.I had a blast and it was just great to be out!!!Haven’t had many chances so far this year due to work.Hunt safe, “g”

Took a few nice ducks over Thanksgiving, but haven’t been seeing anything lately. During rifle season, I can’t say that I noticed much of a migration. Our first child is expected this month, so posts and reports from my area will be few and far between.

I went out this morning and saw a fair amount of big ducks and one lone teal. Nice to see the flight birds moving in. It does not surprise me about the buffies in the area, its cold to the north. Big water is beginning to skim up. That was even last week. Good luck.

Shot a goose and bufflehead on Sat. 11/24.
Shot a hen old squaw and common merg on Sun. 11/25. Should have been a better day but our shooting let us down just a bit. Real mixed bag around from bills to green-wings to golden-eyes to blacks to woodies, no kidding. I think the storm moved the divers out today/last night. Not many ducks around with very minimal shooting.

Got to watch at least three hunter drive around the waterway and blow ducks calls out of their car windows at real ducks and decoys. Idiots.

Hey guys. Glad to hear your having some good luck with your duck action.
Just a suggestion for future reference, keep your hunting area to yourselves. Ugly things can happen if you start posting up too much info on where you hunt. Might want to keep your info very general in nature.
Good luck on the rest of your seasons.

Hunted until noon, 1 gadwall to show for it. Lots of ducks at dawn with steady action thru to 10:30. Lots of teal, ring-necks, and gadwall around but not to cooperative. One duck decoyed good and paid for it. Fired some warning shots at a flock of teal and a flock of gadwall that got to close on fly-bys. Maybe again Wed. .

Only got an hour in yesterday. Furnace problems at the house….messing with hunting time.

Big storm blew in around 16:00 yesterday bringing heavy snow and sleet. I picked up and made it to the vehicle just in time before it really hit the fan.

Local waterways were loaded with buffleheads, hoods, common mergansers (lot of them and new to this body of water) and a bunch of other small groups of diving ducks hanging way out in the middle. The common mergansers were hanging in along the shoreline. Hoods and buffleheads were farther out.

Weather is looking favorable for saturday in SW PA. Good luck if you’re fortunate enough to get out.

What a great opening day. The weather was perfect, just wish the river would have been a little higher so i wouldnt have had to drag the boat half way across the river before I could start it up this morning. I have a nice pair of mallards, and a pair of buffle heads that will end up getting mounted. Can wait to see what the rest of the weekend is like with the river slowly coming up.
Good luck to all waterfowlers that get out this weekend.

Hey support,
I do not see to much activity on this board. you know why? because support does not give a s%it. Where is my freakin dvd or mag that was promised. I expire nov. 30. and you will never see another dime from me or too many people from pa. There is about 4 active people from pa, who gives a crap what the field reports say.

Heres my field report, no water, and even fewer birds around. How can we have a field report, when there is no season in right now. Still have 8 days to worry about field reports!

you shure know how to get rid of members.

Tried an evening set-up on the river last night with my son.Did not really expect much but I figured it would be a good time to scout for the youth day hunt with my twelve year old daughter. Well were sitting there shooting the breeze and at around six thirty we notice a bird of some type land several hundred yards upstream. We could not tell what it was at the time and my old eyes just are not what they used to be.A few minutes later my twenty year old son exclaimed in a very excited fashion “Dad, there’s a bald eagle eating something up on the river bank!”Like I said before my eyes just ain’t what they used to be so I got my range finder out to “assist” me a little bit and sure enough, 620 yards up river was a big old mature bald eagle eating something on the river bank. How my kid was able to clearly see it amazes me but this made our night.I’ve seen a few eagles in my day in Alaska, up at Middle creek and twice in Morgantown during the gunning season but I never really figured I would see one on the Schuylkill River.Being with my oldest made it all the more memorable.Once the eagle had his fill and flew off we had a young fox sneaking up river on us.Oh, and as for the geese, we saw about seven total six of which came over as we were walking out after legal shooting hours. Did see about thirty ducks(teal, woodies and mallards)but that was also after hours. “g”

Set up in a large oat field last night after noticing 3 flocks land in there the other night. The only concern was the power lines that run through the middle of the field.

Decoys were set and I waited about 30 minutes. First flock came in, circled 3 times, but wouldn’t come in below the power lines. they landed 75 yard to the right. Second flock…same deal. Last group skirted the decoys and were within range. I took two out of that group. Total bird numbers 75-80 combined in all three flocks.

Not seeing much else around other than these three flocks.

Not much action in Somerset County. Most/all of the corn is still standing. I saw one flock of 20 land across from WalMart in Somerset. I scouted local waterways and haven’t seen much either. Farmers and other hunters are reporting little activity as well.

For the first time ever, a flock landed in the oats behind my house yesterday morning. That looks like my only lead for the early season.

On another note, dove numbers are up. Remember that they can be hunted after 12:00 noon. No morning hunts.

Good luck to everyone. Hope your early season plans look better than mine.

Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 60-65 Degrees
Scouted this morning with no luck. All of the corn is still up and only as few of the oat fields have been harvested. Sept. 01 could be a challenge. Most of the fields are too small or narrow for birds to come in. Hopefully the corn will be cut soon.

Cloudy, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
I’m seeing kind of a mixture small bunches here and there in pastures and ponds a big bunch near me on the golf course. A lot of the fields are too tall for birds to sit in. Get ready corn will be chopped very soon, we may start next week. They should move then.
Strap in and get ready!!!
