Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 50-60 Degrees
Hunted the opener today and had a fantastic shoot, had to spook off about 100 before shooting hours as to not crack at them in one bird educating mess. They returned to our sheet water with abandon and it didn’t take long to collect a two man limit, although it was not as leisure of a pace as I was hoping, was surprised at the amount of mallards,we ended up with 8 greenies, two gadwall, and two bluewings. The teal were like flies and also had that report from two other groups, one in Ft. Lupton east and one west of Brighton. Both of these guys filled up with 18 for each group but few mallards so I must have had a mallard hotspot I guess.I watched twelve get taken this morning but haven’t had my licks yet but have a good prospect for a fun hunt with me a friend and my two boys this evening on a robo field shoot, will report after that. This morning used two dozen decoys, mostly hens and Gadwalls with a sprinkle of teal, wonderduck paddlewheel, jerk cord and a lucky duck.Took the robo down after the first 15 minutes as they wouldn’t finish it seemed to help.

not the duckiest weather for the last few days but we have had some success chasing geese, we have shot twelve and 2 with bands which is always nice. lots of ducks flying around east of longmont, quite a few divers out and about which i would not have really figured on seeing this early

Cloudy, Snow Flurries – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water
back at it again this morning, almost missed first light due to a jacknifed semi on 285.
Anyway , this time the gun worked and i collected 2 drake mallards and 4 bwt in about 45 minutes, i had to break skim ice to get the decoys in place……COLD for sept, but worth it!

Cloudy, High Winds – 35-40 Degrees
The morning started off great, i had my preferred spot ( on public land ) , the birds were there, only problem was my BRAND NEW extrema 2 wouldnt fire ( WHAT THE BERETTA) To say i was dissapointed would be an understatement, after i drove all the way home and took the gun back to sportsmans warehouse, Where it was discovered that a o ring was in between the piston and the sleeve not allowing the bolt to close all the way. ( THANK YOU SPORTSMANS WAREHOUSE IN LITTLETON FOR SOME EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE, I WAS MAD WHEN I WALKED IN THE DOOR, AND THEY DID EVERYTHING THEY COULD TO HELP THE SITUATION )
Now as for the pair of guys that waited till after shooting light to walk within 80 yards of my decoys and begin pass shooting, who taught you respect for your fellow hunters ! oh yeah, the were dressed in all black and were wearing white hats, real nice job morons, i would put there lic plate #’s pn here , but that won’t change anything now.
Trying it agin tommorow , WITH A GUN THAT WORKS

Dan,
I have not hunted that area in the last 3 years but when I was hunting over there I never saw any hunters on those ponds. Which leads me to believe that hunting is not allowed on them. However, I hunted that area mostly on weekdays when there was not a whole lot of other folks in the area.
