Lake Lowell 12-08-2006 19:59
Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 30-34 Degrees – Ice
There are plenty of Mallards using Lake Lowell. It is pretty well frozen over where i was at. But it looks like the ducks and geese have kept an open hole of water out in the middle. I tried standing on the ice and pass shooting as they headed out to the fields to feed. But since there was no wind and no fog to keep them down most of them were too high even for heavy shot. I did get a couple of shots at a few that came out lower than the rest but unfortunately i missed. It appears that there are alot more ducks on the lake this year than there was at this time last year. I was impressed with the number of ducks i saw and have been seeing at the lake this year. Hopefully the next time i decide to head out to the lake the weather will have the ducks flying lower. Well aim for their oxygen masks as long as the weather stays the way it is now. Good luck.

Where in the world have all the birds gone, I just wanted to post to see if you guys out there are seeing any birds this week. I’m seeing more geese than I have seen in years….what happened to our mallards. 1 week ago there were thousands now they are hundreds? Has anyone checked the lake out? I know that this last week the mallards have been hitting the fields hard at night because of the full moon, thats what makes me think that theyre hanging out on the lake and flying out at night, its been cold but theres no way we’ve lost that many birds.Just wanting to see what all you gentlemen out there are seeing.

Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 10-20 Degrees – Open Water
Not as many ducks as there should be. The cold blast sent most packin’. We shot 10 between two of us. Had to make the shots count. Geese flying high. There area quite a few geese hitting some fields. Way too many high dollars coming in this area and locking up large chunks of land to hunt. DARN CALIFORNICATION!!!
This cold weather may have closed the chapter for this years waterfowl hunting in the Upper Snake River Valley.

Any reports on American Falls Reservoir?

Shoot em up’!

COLD! Been a little slim on the River till today. Must have been 1000plus ducks roosting on the water in a 1 mile stretch. Had a good shoot mostly greenheads. Northerns are definatly here. Happy hunting. Treasure Valley should be hot this weekend.

Sunny & Clear, Morning Fog – 35-40 Degrees
hunted fri. sat. sun. we limited out all three days. the ducks are down and in good numbers. they are hitting the corn fields over nere filer really hard. if you have acess to corn in that direction then you should have some great shooting. be wary about putting spinning wing decoys out. i watched a group down river from us hunt with them and the duck would flare about 50yards out. we didn’t have any out and had no problem finishing the ducks.

well good luck and be safe out there the roads are getting slick.

The ducks are here! They are starting to come in by the thousands!!! I can’t wait to get out this weekend. Hunted Thursday, Friday, and Sunday with little success. Ended up with 6 ducks total and had to work my butt off for them. There were a ton and I mean a ton of Goldeneye’s flying. Good luck to all and be safe.

Cloudy, Snow Flurries – 10-20 Degrees – Ice
Everything is locking up! The river has slush starting to run down it and any small water body that is not moving is frozen solid. I saw mallards landing in canals looking for open water today. If you know where there is warm water sloughs the hunting would be unbelievable right now. There are lots of birds in the valley and now is the time to shoot ’em up!!

Hunted both days over the weekend and it was awesome. The birds are finally starting to get here! Limited out both days and the birds were decoying nice. Went out to see how many birds were hanging out around Lake Lowell and was shocked. Thousands of birds were flying into the lake and I saw a pot load of Pintails. Looked like a cool place to hunt, but I don’t see how people do it with so many people hunting it. It looked tempting, but I’ll stick to my river spots.
