Here today and gone tomorrow – that’s the story of water levels throughout the Central Flyway. While there was ample precipitation during the breeding season, water is quickly evaporating on the prairie and drought conditions are worsening.
Hello folks, and as always, welcome to Waterfowler.com.
With early teal, wood duck and goose seasons just over a month away, WFC staff has turned a watchful eye to the coming season and migration conditions. While the Pacific, Atlantic and Great Lakes regions have received normal precipitation this year, most of the Central Flyway is losing water – fast.
According to the current Drought Monitor Map (link below), the drought trend is predicted to continue in the central United States, which could indicate an above average season for the eastern portion of the Mississippi Flyway.

Traditionally, when the prairie dries after the breading season, it’s “game on” for ducks in eastern Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana – all areas that have struggled through low-to-no water conditions the past few seasons.
Of course, Mother Nature being the fickle and unpredictable force we’ve come to know and love, we can definitively say, “conditions could change, or they won’t.” That said, we truly believe that should we ever decide to change our career paths, a future in meteorology is an option.
Yes, the season is fast approaching , and all to often it arrives before we can properly prepare for the season ahead. For hunters in the north, July marks the onset of the coming season with public blind drawings, lease negotiations and even blind building.
WFC celebrates the coming of the early waterfowl seasons with our new retail partner, Mack’s Prairie Wings, and we are pleased to announce an upcoming member only special on HEVI-SHOT. Members are urged to watch their email in the coming week for program details and exclusive savings opportunities.
If you had notice that the summer Issue of Waterfowler.com Journal has not arrived in your mailbox yet, you are not alone. WFC has had multiple delays with the publication and we apologize for the tardiness — and we thank you in advance for your patience.
Members who saved on the recent “blow out” sale of our duck call inventory should keep their eyes peeled for additional closeout announcements in the ONLINE LODGE Open forum. WFC will be posting additional items over the next few weeks as we clear out additional inventory.
As always, WFC will be attending the Duck’s Unlimited Great Outdoors Festival in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on August 25, 26 and 27th. WFC members are invited to stop by our booth at the show. Members are encouraged to purchase their E-tickets online at:

Hi, I appreciate every bit of your efforts to let us know about Hunting. In fact, we’re going to study and research it as part of a half-yearly initiative supported by our websites Rangerexpert (https://rangerexpert.com/)and a group of partners.
