Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 35-40 Degrees
Shot the cornfield again yesterday with good results. The birds we took came as singles and doubles first, before a switch to larger groups. The majority of birds flew latter. We shot a full limit and after the hunt had marinated and smoked goose breast slices with dipping sauce, venison sausage, pickles, roasted pecans, and italian pastries. Beverage provided by Mr. Coors. A great day!

Hunted same corn field on Thursday as last week with great results. Again we all limited out on honkers and the hunt was over by 9:30. One goose I shot came down finally after crashing into a work truck parked on the side of the road! Exciting hunt! Go get ’em !

Mid LI 01-10-2010 08:04
Arctic Blast – 10-20 Degrees – Open Water
As the temps drop into the teens the mid island bays and harbors have continued to freeze up. On Thursday we had 60% open waters. Today it could be down to as little as 20%. Numbers of birds on the south shore bays continue to be low. Reports from the north shore were the same as of Thursday. Friends on the North Fork have had continued success with the dark geese this week. As stated by Cedar Point MJC the dark goose action on the South Fork is also good. No reports from the west. I would expect that Brandt and dark geese shooting should be good, as long as, access is available. Get out and do some scouting… . Wind chills are in the single digits and water temps are in the high 30s. Take caution. Hunt safe, GNR.

Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 30-34 Degrees – Ice
Hunted this am in a corn field with my buds. No action until 8am then we were swarmed. We took a full limit each without hurrying and were still done by 9am. To me it was a perfect day with good shooting and thousands of geese flying. Hope the rest of you were able to get out and did well. P.S. Anyone spot that lab?

Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water
Reports from the east over the holidays indicated good action in the fields for geese. The Fire Island side of Bellport and Great South Bay has been iced in. These bays are for the most part open, but are not showing the usual numbers of divers. Access from some ramps has been limiting. High winds have hampered open water shooting. No reports from the west. Some migrants continue to arrive in small numbers on both north and south shores. Hunt safe, GNR.

Does anyone other than from long island read any of this? How about all of the duck hunters from the rest of the state? Come on guys lets start shaing some info. I hunted sodas today and it was freezing cold but we killed 27 ducks between 5 of us. Mostly divers but that is what we do this time of the year, I am happy just to be hunting because were I live we closed Dec 12th 3 days after the ducks showed up!

eastern long island. 12-28-2009 07:03
Cloudy, High Winds – 30-34 Degrees – Ice
Hunted eastern long island. Tidal salt marsh. We were rigged out by noon 12/26 Saturday. After breaking about 500 yards of 3 inch ice and shoveling the ramp to get to our spot, well to say it was hot was an understatement. I killed our first black duck while we were setting the rig. Loading a gun before setting the decoys has paid off so many times this season. From 12 to 3:30 it was nonstop black duck and gadwall action from 3:30 to 4:30 it was non-stop mallard action. We were able to shoot a 4 man limit of black ducks, mallards and gadwall. What an amazing afternoon. All birds where shot under 30 yards. If they didn’t decoy we didn’t shoot. We also shot a 3 man limit of brant. All I can say is hard work pays off. Knowing that these birds never knew we were there is so rewarding. Standing up to shoot and the birds still not knowing we are there is an unreal feeling. The endless hours spent grassing and painting decoys are all worth it for a shoot like this. I hope everyone else did well this weekend. All mallards were stuffed with corn. I am sure the guys in the corn fields made out this weekend as well. Good luck to all. Work hard, scout and hunt ethically. The birds are here. Put in your time and you will see great results. “Ur not killing ducks, unless you drop em in the rig, everything else is just sky busting. “

South Haven county park 12-25-2009 07:14
– – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water
Talked yesterdy with a buddy who shot South Haven Park on Thursday afternoon with some of our buddies. Plenty of open water and good shooting. Lots of ducks flying. They got in the afternoon shoot and heard the morning shoot had to turn away some hunters because there was so many. I’m going out again on the 30th with Deerfield Guide Services for geese. Good luck to all and Merry Christmas!

eastern long island. 12-23-2009 10:25
Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 10-20 Degrees – Open Water
Very few boat ramps open on eastern long island. My spot where I always launch my boat has over 6 feet of snow in front of it. I haven’t been able to scout much most of the water I can see from most areas is frozen. I feel in the dark. I don’t know anyone that has been out and I haven’t been able to do any scouting we went from being too nice, too maybe having too much weather. If I had to guess I bet we lost allot of birds. I Will be on the water all weekend will report Monday.

Thank You.
