Mohawk River 12-27-2006 15:47
Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 40-45 Degrees
Ducks were flying pretty high this morning over the Mohawk but I managed to turn these two honkers around bring them in close. What a rush. The water levels are pretty high and there are potholes everywhere for the ducks to hide in. Seen some good flocks of Widgeon coming through and quite a few Mallards hanging out in the valley.

It has been a great 2 weeks for goose hunters. There are a lot of geese in the area. lots of small geese traveling together in big flocks at about 8 in the morning then the big geese start getting up at about 930 and moving around. so if you can hold out on shooting the small birds and give it time you can scrap out a few pigs.
Weve shot limits of geese the last 6 times we have gone out. hopefully the birds stay here and this keeps up through the rest of the season.
Temps have warmed up and it has been raining pretty much for 3 days straight. So there is little potholes popping up all over for the ducks to be using. seems like the ducks are pretty spread out.
Find a spot they are using and put in the time.
Good luck everyone.

Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 40-45 Degrees
I had an absolutely great hunt yesterday for Geese up on Multnomah channel yesterday. We shot a couple of limits of geese out of a dairy field. There were thousands of them trying to get into our field and we called flocks in for hours. Great shooting, great birds and pretty good dog work as well. Man, what a trip. That is hunting at its finest..

Hey Kat-17–thanks for the info!! We are not taking our boat for that very reason–so we figured it would be a goose hunt only ( which is a good thing)!! Thanks again
Tom
Hey that picture of you beside your boat looks like it was taken at Indian Tom Lake!!

sprigkiller55, I talked to a few friends a couple days ago and said the ponds were frozen up again. The reports show that most of the activity are in the fields.

Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water
Hunted a garlic circle that had some cover crop wheat in it for geese this morning. limited out by about 8:30 all on little geese and one speck.
Lots and lots of geese in the area. big groups of little geese that get off the river and headd for the field. luckily this morning we had the right field.
I went down to McCormick slough this morning and there was probably 5,ooo geese in one of the grass circle there.
Should be good for this weekend.
Good luck

Huntedd for geese on thursaday and just got seriously rained on. Had lots of little geese working the field but they kept hanging just outside the decoys.
Sat and sun were very good days. Lots of geese in the air and they loved to work the decoys. Shot a lot of very big birds. Great weekend.,
I am seeing lots and lots of geese around here, you just have to be able to get permission on the fields they are going to. the problem is that everyone else knows where they are going so there is a lot of competion to get good fields down here. Luckily i have some of my own land that i keep aside just for the family.
A buddy of mine hunting McCormick slough this weekend and had pretty good success. the slough semi thawed out and people got some pretty good shooting in.
Looks like it is going to stay under freezing around here so if you have a patch of open water keep it open and the ducks will find it.
Good luck .

Siltcoos Lake 12-16-2006 19:54
Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 35-40 Degrees
Hunted Siltcoos today with little success. There were a lot of hunters on the lake today. A lot of shooting but the birds were avoiding decoys and we mostly had pass shooting opportunities. There were 3 groups of us in the booth island triangle at the south of the island and everyone was pass shooting. The birds seemed nervous, flew very high. We did get one Canvasback, our first for the year at Siltcoos, a very beautiful bird. Couple of bluebills and buffleheads. Thinking of having it mounted. Lake started getting rough about 1 so we packed it in.

Temps have warmed up and ponds have started thawing out. Starting to see ducks hit little ponds they havent been able to go to in weeks. should make the birds spread out more.
Supposed to get cold this weekend so hopefully the geese will be hungry and head to the fields hard.
Good luck this weekend
