Hello All, I will be moving to Oregon in September, I will be there for 9-12 months (work related) I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction of gettin into some waterfowl huntin while I’m there? Guides? I also Bow hunt, for big game, any chance of gettin into anything?
Thank you in advance.

Note from ODFW 07-17-2007 09:23
Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
It is apparent from waterfowl counts that a 107 day liberal duck season will be offered again this year. Goose numbers have maintained themselves also.
So in essence I will be proposing basically no changes from duck and goose seasons from last year. The new goose seasons in Klamath and the south coast area would be maintained but we are pursuing a new hunt in Tillamook County. So really a whole lot of STATUS QUO with date adjustments.
Based on this please provide me by July 26 with any comments you may have on retaining the status quo on most hunting seasons and in particular if you have different recommendations for a particular hunt.
Thanks much.

I talked to a buddy that is big in DU and he told me that there has been great nesting conditions in northern alberta. lots of water and great hatches. so he is predicting a big number of ducks coming through this area this winter. so lets all keep our fingers crossed and see what happens.

Started seeing lots of chicks about 2 weeks ago. the local geese have set up home on the river just below our farm and there are about 40 pairs with 3-6 chicks each. hopefully we can get a good hatch up north and have a good season this year.

Well i figured i better make a post. i am still seeing a couple hundred geese a day working one of our alfalfa fields that sits about 100 yds off the columbia. they just know how to get under your skin.
i am seeing lots of geese paired up and hanging out by them selfs or with other pairs.
Hopefully we can all make it through these tough months waiting for next season.
Turkey season starts on sunday, everyone get out there and see if they cant put a bird down.
Good luck

WEll thats it. Put your guns down. season has come to a close we can all dry our tears and finally get something done at work. I hope that everyone had a good last weekend to keep you excited and looking forward to the next.
I had a good last 4 days with some good friends and great times out goose hunting.
We killed a lot of birds this year and missed just as many but all in all one of my best seasons so far with just under 100 geese killed personally and close to 300 as a group.
Hopefully everyone will stay in touch through the offseason and we can all hit it again next september. Every one have a good summer get out there and catch some fish or do some predator controll.
Good luck.

sprigkiller55, you were correct…I do have a residance in oregon also…but have been in contact with two persons in the Denver area….for the past five seasons I have noticed that the birds here in the klamath basin have really changed their patterns…not many stay here more than one week….geese move north into grants pass area after early season….(honkers) and the snows usually overfly tule and go straight into the butte sink area; due to the different crops being planted at tule (my opinion)….klamath used to be a final destination locatioin for over 1 to 1 1/2 million waterfowl at peak times; but there’s nowhere near this number anymore….the snake river, and Idaho has also stort stopped many of the honkers; with a further splitting of the honkers then going south to winter in surprise valley of california…the northern portion of klamath lake, and other areas could be remanaged and “opened to hunters” and perhaps the watefowl population would support waterfowl hunting in numbers that used to come into klamath falls since ww2 time period…what’s you opinion????you have a similar problem that is in your california area too; with the real estate market being too expensive to support duck clubs in many areas…the north end of the salton sea used to support eleven duck and goose clubs; but only three remain; with actual cheap $400,000 to $600,000 homes being erected where “duck shacks” stood three years ago…klamath still has waterfowl at various times; but with guides purchasing blocks of land for their use; it may come to the day that the average hunter here would need to have a guide, to access the good property????…denver has and is experiencing a huge build up of honkers and projections are that it will continue to get more each season….but…a quality boat hunt definitely may be the way to go to hunt the klamath area; along with many quality water decoys….
