Mississippi Duck Hunting Report Archive

Posted By: Kent-Lacina Field Editor south delta 01-21-2009 14:59 Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 40-45 Degrees Well hunted last saturday and sunday at sunflower and ended up with a mixed bag. Mainly woodducks and a few mallards. From reports that i’ve heard is the Mahanna now has big ducks again and good to very good numbers. Most of the bags have been mallards and gray’s with a few pintails mixed in. Although you have to scout to see what holes they are going into. Howard miller has very few big ducks, most of what is there is shovelers and a few teal i would say duck numbers to be fair. Shipland has been good with quite a few mallards being shot with some woodducks. I would say duck numbers to be fair to good. Panther swamp has good numbers of birds as well. I do know that Howard Miller will… Continue reading

Tons of teal and gadwall still around, mixed in with some greenheads. This last cold push should help wind the season up, hopefully there will be a continued push of new birds. Posted By: Kent-Lacina Field Editor hattiesburg area 09-24-2007 11:46 Cloudy, Occassional Rain Showers – Over 70 Degrees Well the dove season opened this weekend for our zone. My son and i hunted saturday and ended up with a limit fairly easy. My son managed to kill one dove that was banded. It looked young so it probably was a local bird. I will update later when he gets his certificate back. It was a 1800- bird band. As for ducks i did see some teal flying around early saturday morning but nothing trying to land on our holes. Did see a fair amount of woodducks also. Hope the weather cools off quickly. Looking forward to a great waterfowl season. Hope everyone has a great season and looking forward to reading everyone’s posts. Remember it’s what we do today that will tell what happens tomorrow. Posted By: crmsontyde Guest Marks 01-02-2007 21:23 Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 45-50 Degrees Christmas day and the day after saw a bunch of Mallards. Could have limited out if we were a little better at shooting. Hunted the last few days and not much going on at all. Seen a bunch of high flyers, but none workable. Today, 2 Jan, didn’t see much at all until about 8.00am. Only had two groups actually work and come in the hole. It is too freakin warm to be in the pit. Had mosquitos tearing us up the other day. So far this season is kinda blowing. Really… Continue reading

Posted By: Kent-Lacina Field Editor south delta and south mississippi 12-22-2006 08:41 Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 50-60 Degrees Well the reports from our lease in the south delta where rather dismal. Most of the geese have moved north along with a the majority of the ducks. The hot weather we have had along with the fog the last week has limited the birds in our area. Reports from a week and a half ago we have lost most of our birds due to a reverse migration. We do have a few ducks around with a scattering of geese. If we don’t have a strong cold front within the next two weeks our bird numbers shouldn’t rise. Reports that i’ve heard from mahanna and sunflower is a few ducks around but not in any huge numbers. With a small cold front moving in sunday and x-mas we will see… Continue reading
