Arctic Blast – 50-60 Degrees
We laid the smack down on mallards, gadwalls, wigeon and teal on isolated water this morning as the front came through. Large numbers of snow geese were pouring down from the north and late in the morning we saw migratory flights of as many as 100 ducks.
The forecast I just watched calls for snow in the Panhandle over the weekend, which could push even more ducks into North Texas.
Cut ’em, guys, and y’all have a happy Thanksgiving.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 50-60 Degrees
Last weekend hunted down on the Pecos River…
Lots of birds, but not many new ones…
Majority of the limit was comprised of Gads and Widgeon…..
Hoping that cold front brought in some newbies…..
Later in the season will start getting more Reds and Cans…..
Haven’t heard too many reports from the Lubbock area….will fill you in when I talk to my outfitters…

Cloudy, High Winds – 50-60 Degrees
Snuck off and got a quick hunt in before work yesterday. I had high expectations with perfect conditions (strongs winds which provided nice decoy movement). Got all my dekes out in a nice spread and and waited until about 7. Finally, a nice flight of ringers- probabaly 50 flew right over me (out of shooting range) and didn’t even look back. A few minutes later a few teal did the same thing. These birds were obviously headed out to feed. I hung around 30 more minutes and decided to leave. I had to get back to work. Knowing that the birds that snubbed me earlier would likely be back, I begrudgingly began to pack it in. As soon as I put on my lifevest and dragged my float tube towards the decoys, a flight of about 6 or 7 ringers flew perfectly towards my spread. Drawing my gun and ineffectively getting it to my shoulder (as I had a Maywest lifevest on), I fired away. Missing completely with my high dollar heavy shot shells ($2-$4-$6).In my premarital days, I couldn’t spend my money that fast in high class strip bar. I was pissed!!!… ended the morning with 0 kills and a newly discovered hole in my waders. Just another day in the life of a masochistic duck hunter.
