RHuskey,
Where did you get the info that this passed? I been looking at the G&F website daily to see to what happened, and didn’t find anything. Did the length of season or days to hunt all day remain the same? Usually the decisions on season regulatons aren’t done until August. I guess if this passed, so be it. Maybe they decided we should get in line with both Nebraska and Colorado, who also have 3 bird limits. thanks for the update.

Yogibear
I spoke last evening with the Wyoming Game and Fish commisioner and he told me the following. Their will be a meeting held in Casper next Tuesday and Wednesday and 7 people will vote on this issue. I am told that part of the meeting will be open for public comment but I do not have the specifics. The problem as they see it is as follows, lack of habitat ( no water in Bump,Springer and Table) Winters that have been warmer that keep the Geeses up in Montana and the Yellowstone drainage. Lower populations in our flyway which range from 197,000 to 217,000. Increased number of hunters especially on the river from Lingle to Henry they estimate there is over 400 pits and the geese simply have no place to rest with this sort of hunting pressure. The pits are located on private land so G&F have no control over this issue. The average hunter last season took 1.4 geese per each day of hunting but as we all know this was a weather issue. Most of our geese last season went to Northern Colorado and Western Nebraska where hunters had their best season in years. From what I have been able to find out the G&F will most likely not make any changes for next season or if they do it will be lowering the limit from 5 to 3 ( but this is a vote so anything can happen) If they do not make any changes I think we can count on changes being made in the 2008-2009 season. As for the water issue you mentioned, I also brought up that issue and G&F do not own any water rights, in fact the commisioner stated Horse Creek irragation will once again pull down Hawk Springs again this summer as they did last summer when they killed all the fish.

mulket,
From what I know (and I don’t know alot admittedly) it seems like the people in favor of lowering the limit and shutting off hunting earlier are either a few guides or hunters that can hunt everyday if they want. It doesn’t appear the “average Joe” working man hunter has much to do with what a few people are trying to push through in Goshen county. I do know from personal experience that the G&F will listen to everyone’ concerns. This is a MAJOR issue that could impact all hunters in our flyway in Wyoming.
I do agree with the concern expressed by these people that our hunting has suffered greatly the past few seasons, but can’t this be related to birds hanging up north and the horrible water situation in Goshen County, and Wyoming in general. I know I have waterfowl friends in other states that can not believe hunting hours are so restrictive in Goshen county. I don’t know for sure what the answers are, but I sure wish we could get G&F to take an aggressive look at water issues at Table, Springer, Bump, etc. Take care.

Glaubgoose WOW it is scary that you really believe this? Perhaps if you know and see offenders you should post more than the county and color of vehicle? Does anyone out there really beleive that 18 hunters voted for the reduced limit and half days? It sounds more like the ANTI’s than hunters. Several years ago their was a small contigent of hunters from the Yoder area that pushed the half day we have now and the majority very seldom hunted. The real reason has not been uncovered yet!

About the goose limit maybe brought down to 3 geese a day and end shooting at 1:00 pm I say let them because there are some hunter out there that did it to us all. I have been in touch with G$F and because of these people I have in the past told you about hunting past hours and hunting out of other peoples decoys, I told you all this would happen if we did not do anything about it. I told you all this back in Decmember. The G$F are trying to stop the pouching that some people are doing, and this is one way to do it. Now because of these people like a few I seen from Torrington and I am not saying it is anyone here I do not know but because of these people, aoll you need to turn these people in because they just screwed it up for all us. The goose populations are up and it really does not need the limit brought down. But I can say I told you so now, you might think I was just a made hunter and complaining about things in the past. I was jjust trying to protect our hunting rights and priveledges. But no one would stand by me. I also say wait till they end the seasons sooner also. One man I know lives near Table Mountain and goes every day, is one of these pass shooters and pouchers, he owns a silver Toyota PU and has a brown and white dog, anouther person has a Green Chevy PU that has a #7 lic. plate and yet another is a man in a silver to grayish Ford Excersion Plate starts with a 7 and many more. Here is just three people you can thank if you are up set about limits going down. Now maybe next year of anyone sees anyone pouching turn them in and stop from our rights being taken away, because the limits and shooting hours are rights given to us, and can be taken away.

I don’t think there will be another meeting, there usually is only one meeting each spring to discuss upcoming regulations. I think you might be surprised about how successful writing the G&F is, I’ve had very good luck writing my concerns, they do read what you write and they do listen. I will keep my eyes open for another meeting, but this would not be normal protocal from them to have another meeting to discuss this.

I have written the G&F about my objections to this proposal. They want to reduce bag limit to 3 geese per day, and end all goose hunting at 1:00 PM everyday. This is the first meeting I missed in several years – and from what I hear it is a small group of hunter/guides trying to push this through. Everyone should write the G&F about your feelings on this matter.
