And now, on to the Breeding Ground Report.

Rains have been falling on parts of the plains but a quick look at the drought monitor tells more of the story. Compared to the same time period last year, most portions of the breeding ground are drier.

The majority of nesting efforts are well underway, but some regions report delayed nest initiation. Late nesting and re-nesting efforts may receive some benefit from recent precipitation, but such efforts generally have lower overall nest success rates.

Scattered rain events are forecast again this week for much of the duck factory. Any rain at this point is welcome but significant precipitation will be required, and soon, if it is going to make a meaningful impact on this year’s nesting efforts and success.

Stay tuned to Waterfowler.com as we keep you up to date on the latest from the breeding grounds.
