All New – Series 72 from Autumn Wings Decoys

Dayton, Minnesota – Manufacturer of duck decoys, Autumn Wings, is expanding their product assortment to include a new working decoy line, the Autumn Wings Series 72, a burlap wrapped foam decoy modeled after the discontinued Model 72 (Herter’s Model 72 is a trademark of Cabela’s).  While the product is modeled after this popular discontinued model, Autumn Wings takes burlap wrapped foam decoys to a new level of excellence.  Order information, pricing and details about the product will appear on www.autumnwings.com in October, and shipping in November.

In the interest of efficiency, Autumn Wings is starting the Series 72 line with one diver body shape and paint scheme, the Series 72 Bluebill, and one puddler body shape and paint scheme, the Series 72 Mallard. With market interest, Autumn Wings plans to introduce more species.

While paying homage to the past, the Autumn Wings Series 72 really takes burlap wrapped foam decoys to a new level of excellence by using Autumn Wings’ tried and true wooden head designs, signature keel, and an upgraded airbrush paint job. Autumn Wings also tweaked the dimensions a bit to result in a “chunkier” style reminiscent of Autumn Wings’ old Fat Boy cork decoys. The designers at Autumn Wings prefer the stable platform and “content feeling” the 8” wide body affords.

Since one of the goals of their business is to create working decoys of style and character that will be worthy of passing down to the next generation, Autumn Wings designers felt it important to wrap the solid foam bodies in burlap. This insures the durability and longevity of the decoy without sacrificing its reasonable weight. Series 72 decoys weigh about 1 lb. each, 50% lighter than their equivalently sized wooden decoys. As a bonus, the burlap accepts paint well and the coarse texture adds a realistic appearance that does not shine.

Autumn Wings adapted their wood keel design to work with the Series 72. In addition to providing a wrap area and line tie off, the unique shape accommodates a grip point for a gloved hand and a conventional permanent tie off point most used in rigging. Customers may also tie a loose loop through the interior arc cutout of the keel resulting in a “swim rig”. This method of rigging will end up with more decoy position orientations relative to the wind. Autumn Wings currently offers a wide assortment of hand carved wood heads (with glass eyes) hand painted with oils to support replacement or to change up the species.
