We heard mallards and woodies all morning. Unfortunately they flew out before shooting time and most never came back. We saw big groups of ducks around 7:45, a mixture of gadwall and wood ducks. Ended up with a hen gadwall. It’s been a disapointing opener. Back at it next weekend. Back to work until then unfortunately. There was some shooting on the river this morning. Posted By: davehunter03 Web Member 01-07-2013 07:11 – – – Kevin: Thanks for the reports this season! I for one really appreciate them, as not many post reports anymore. I know it was a slow season for most, but folks just don’t take the time to post up. SR. Posted By: Kevin-Stallard Field Editor Fayette Bond Co. 01-06-2013 06:09 Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 10-20 Degrees – Ice Did a little scouting and saw very few birds up on the northend of the lake. Snows and Specks are few and far in between, the ducks are using whatever open water they can find. Most fields are still snow covered but some having success. Airboats are the only way to manuver north of the railroad tracks and if you make a hole the ducks are responding. No significant weather changes are in the forecast although a brief warm-up and showers… Continue reading

Posted By: Kevin-Stallard Field Editor S/W Illinois 12-05-2012 17:50 Cloudy, Winds Calm – 50-60 Degrees I haven’t reported much lately because the past couple of weeks have been a nightmare for me, I had a grandson born that required special care at Cardinal Glennon Hospital thus making it almost impossible to get out and hunt. He is doing better but it will be awhile before he is home. I have talked to several guys hunting in the area and the report was very good early around Carlyle Lake, the first several days of the season almost everybody was getting their limits. The birds got smarter and mother nature gave us 70 plus degrees with a strong south wind that sent alot of the birds back north. There is probably a third of the birds in the area as there was at its peak in middle November, but a new front… Continue reading

Posted By: webmaster root Illinois 08-30-2012 10:42 – – – From the IL DNR: Dear Waterfowl Hunters: Due to ongoing drought conditions in Illinois, some farmers are mowing or tilling their unharvested crop fields to collect crop insurance payments. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) reminds hunters that the manipulation, including mowing or tilling, of unharvested crop fields is not a normal agricultural practice for waterfowl hunting purposes. The IDNR has received guidance on this issue from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Federal baiting laws still apply, even during times of drought. Therefore, it is a violation of the baiting laws under the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act if scattered grain is not totally removed 10 days prior to hunting. Hunters should familiarize themselves with baiting laws in Illinois. For more information on waterfowl baiting regulations, refer to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service website link regarding… Continue reading
