Posted By: mallardman314 Guest grasslands 12-17-2010 12:07 – – – last 2 weeks have bbe lights out.. if a guy wanted to shoot teal you coulda limited in 15 minutes each day out.. mallards are getting scarce but the sprig and wigon are thick, even got a speck and a rooster yesterday….should be only getting better from here till the end Posted By: John Cunningham Field Editor North Sacto Valley 12-13-2010 11:33 Cloudy, Heavy Fog – 50-60 Degrees Mixed results the past 3 days…Fri-Sun. Deader than a doornail on Fri…much better Sat and fair on Sun. The low ceiling certainly helped Sat-Sun but the tule fog on Sun brought the action to a halt until it started to break mid-morning. Mallards, sprig, some widges and a load of teal. Not that many ducks on the east side of the Sacto River but plenty on the west side sitting all day… Continue reading

One hell of a teal shoot! 12 teal and 2 wigeon. We shot the best blind on the refuge and were rewarded with 3 limits by 10. Could have been done by 8, but I was ballisticly challenged. Drove past Sac and it was wall to wall snows. Not nearly as many ducks as last week. Must have move back up north. Posted By: John Cunningham Field Editor North Sacramento Valley 11-22-2010 11:24 Cloudy, Rain & Thunderstorms – 45-50 Degrees Wild n wooly on Saturday! The mid-afternoon downpour and 20mph wind really shook-up the birds for a few hours. Good mallard hunting and the 1st of the greenwing teal balls w/ occasional 20+ widgeon bundles. The storm was too late for the AM goose flight and the geese sat it out in the PM. As expected on Sunday! In the north Valley as always on a clear day after a storm nada. The full moon late Sat nite didn’t help either. Looks like a fair number of specs have moved south along w/ the snows. Hope to get them back if we catch a few days soon w/ strong NW winds…we’ll see! Huge, I mean huge snow migration from the north on Sunday…spectacular sight against the crystal blue sky. With the early… Continue reading
