Posted By: MUDDOG Guest ne texas 12-18-2007 09:48 – – – Not unless they just got here 12/17/07. I hunt NE Texas and it has been pathetic since the first week or two. As of this past weekend there were no migrants from the snow/ice to the north. Nor were there any in Oklahoma just to the north of E. Texas. I spent 3 days up there last weekend and scouted about 7 different places spread over a large area. There was only about 1/4 the birds we/they had in early season. And I talked to several different hunting groups in the region and everyone had the same results except for 1 person. Those 2 guys shot 9 birds. One thing that caught my eye was this morning driving to work I saw some new ducks on a pond which never holds birds unless a migration is moving through. This… Continue reading

Posted By: brian j. donovan Field Editor Aubrey, Texas 11-21-2007 18:44 Arctic Blast – 50-60 Degrees We laid the smack down on mallards, gadwalls, wigeon and teal on isolated water this morning as the front came through. Large numbers of snow geese were pouring down from the north and late in the morning we saw migratory flights of as many as 100 ducks. The forecast I just watched calls for snow in the Panhandle over the weekend, which could push even more ducks into North Texas. Cut ’em, guys, and y’all have a happy Thanksgiving. Posted By: brian j. donovan Field Editor North Texas 11-06-2007 09:26 Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 50-60 Degrees Saturday morning, we hunted west of Gunter about halfway between town and Lake Ray Roberts on a very small wetland. Hunting was steady if a little slow, but we had an unfortunate lack of big ducks. With one group of teal in the decoys right after legal and a few mallards very late in the morning, we occupied ourselves in the interim with shooting the ringnecks that presented themselves plentifully. We saw several large groups of snow geese passing through at high altitude throughout the morning. Sunday we hunted the Lake Lewisville area and saw tremendous numbers of wood ducks at first light. Teal and gadwalls comprised the bulk of the flight for about half an hour after true sunrise and then the flight stopped for more than an hour, at… Continue reading

Posted By: portahunter Supporting Member Se Tx 07-21-2007 19:08 – – – Well, saw a group of blue-wing teal while I was out fishing today. There was about 15 of them and they were flying fairly high over the marsh. I’m thinking it’s a group that probably stayed south for the summer, but it still gets the blood going just seeing the little buggers. Come on teal season. Posted By: willett2006 Guest 07-05-2007 13:20 – – – Lakes in East Texas are filling up as well. Not as much rain like dallas and houston but just what we need. Toledo Bend is full and should still be climbing with this rain. Lake O’ the Pines, Caddo, and Palestine… Continue reading

Posted By: brian j. donovan Field Editor Lake Lewisville 01-19-2007 09:57 Cloudy, Winds Calm – 35-40 Degrees Mallards continue to be the main duck in the Lake Lewisville area, though numbers are down a little bit from last weekend. Flight groups are getting smaller and smaller, with pair bonded groups appearing frequently. Mama’s gonna need a new boyfriend… A few wood ducks are hanging on, too. Other than that, just be aware that water levels continue to rise and some isolated spots are now under too much water to hunt. Posted By: STEPHEN SCHWARTZ Guest 01-19-2007 07:54 – – – MMaxwell— where do you hunt below Pines? We arent too far from you.
