We’re killing a few ducks but not many of them are mallards. Two of us hunted a rice field pit yesterday and ended up with five spoonies, three mallards and a hen redhead. Not too bad but no barn burner. We didn’t let much get past. This morning, three of us hunted the same pit and killed 6 green-wing teal, three spoonies and one blue snow goose. Still no barn burner but enough to keep us interested. This is the same kind of hunts you’d expect the first part of the season. I thought the spoonies and teal left a month ago.
