Posted By: nashua Web Member central kentucky 12-24-2008 13:54 Cloudy, Rain & Thunderstorms – 45-50 Degrees The Geese are here. We have seen hundreds of new birds arriving in big strings here in Central, Kentucky. Shot our limits this morning. Some birds seemed smart and climbed away from the decoys and others tried to land in the decoys as we picked up. Lots of mallards as well but there was skim ice on the pond and they shied away from it. It has rained non stop since 4am. Fields are flooded, truck stuck in corn. We’ll get in the Spring. Posted By: Shawn-Keeton Web Member Ohio River 12-15-2008 12:05 Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water We put the skiff in on Saturday morning to no other boats around. I was kinda surprised by that. We put in at 8:00 and headed upstream into some fog. After about a mile we switched to the Indiana bank. After another mile we spotted a single buffle head. After a long sneak we got her. Turning around we headed downstream and saw 3 mallards sitting on the IN bank. We got within 20 and rolled er’ over and got all three. After another mile or so we spotted three blacks on the IN bank and got within 25 yards before taking our limit of 1 a piece. We snuck several other groups of blacks but already had our limits and there were no mallards or other ducks in with… Continue reading

Posted By: ohioriverhunter Guest West of Augusta 12-08-2008 15:04 Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water Launched the boat at 5:30 A.m. yesterday. We were hunting a new area, so we had to take the “big pole” as we call it and check our depths. We got 6 dozen GHG mallards out and 2 mojos with about a 25 ft. hole in the middle and slight “j” bends at the end of each group. Seen several migrators- ducks and geese both. The puddle ducks didnt want nothing to do with us. Only the divers would work the spread. We killed bluebills, redheads (100% they weren’t Canvasbacks), Buffleheads and Mergansers. Only heard the guys fire down from us one time. We got our mixed bag then headed to the house around noon. Good luck and be safe ! Only one black duck and only a few misses to report. We need rain and weather for the “good” spot to get better as today was not the best, but at least we got out and shot at a few!! Posted By: Shawn-Keeton Web Member 11-17-2008 08:02 – – – Saw a heck of a flock of sandhill cranes this morning. Awesome to watch them and hear them. I didn’t get out this weekend but from all reports the deer are still slow (although that could be because of the full moon and high winds) as much as anything. Goose starts Sunday so we are getting awful close fellas. Posted By: mojcar Guest 11-14-2008 10:32 – – – i know what ya mean Keaton! Posted By: Shawn-Keeton Web Member 10-12-2008 07:46 – – – The weather is finally starting to change here in North Dakota. It has been sunny and 60’s, but now the rain and snow is moving in. We have seen birds moving in by the thousands. The geese are here in waves. We are heading back to Kentucky today so we really only got one day in the push but it was awesome. We killed some beautiful can drakes, some redheads, gadwalls and mallards. For the trip we ended with 11 different species of ducks and geese. A great time was had by all. Now its time to look forward to early season in IN and our own season at the end of next month. Posted By: mojcar Guest northern Ky 09-08-2008 12:12 Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – Over 70 Degrees Good opener this year! 4 man limit by 08:30, can’t beat it. The geese have been everywhere this year, but finally found a good feed field and got on them. Posted By: Shawn-Keeton Web Member 09-08-2008 08:08 – – – Finally got on some geese. The birds have been moving almost daily but we finally figured them out enough to shoot a few. They are still primarily working clover and alfalfa fields in this area, although a bit of corn is starting to come down, so I suspect they will be in it before long. We got on some doves as well and killed our first collared dove. MAn are those dudes big. It was about twice the size of the regular doves. Pretty to, real light colored with a dark collar around its… Continue reading
