Maybe more ducks on the move. Most of the ponds I checked today did not have ducks, but the few that did had bigger numbers. Saw a few small ponds that had 30-50 on them.

been out woodie chasing the last couple days, seems that is what we have the most of at the current time. The beavers have made for me some Arkansas style flooded timber and the wood ducks love it. Shot a limit 2 days ago and 1 shy yesterday. Still looking for the bigs to show up on the local haunts.

Hey Mingo,

Are you hunting east or west of 77? I hunt east and typically see lots of birds moving over on the west side. If you want to send me a PM that is fine. Just trying to get a bead on these Mcclain Co. birds.

Cloudy, Winds Calm – 50-60 Degrees
Had a good shoot this morning with 3 guns taking 14 birds; mostly Gadwall with a few Wigeon and one Mallard.

The wind was actually wrong for our set up, but this caused the birds to come over our backs and hover over the pond trying to find a way to get down. This made for some pretty easy shooting. The birds seemed to have trouble getting up speed to get out and many broke back over us. We even dropped a few behind the dam. A few fresh ducks seem to be trickling in, but they are not easy. You gotta be hid, still and take your shot at the first good chance.

Made a quick hunt this AM with my Uncle. Had 4 gadwalls come in and only 2 left. That is all that even gave us a look. Seen a few flying, but not many.

I am seeing decent numbers of birds on various ponds however while traveling for work. It needs to get cold!!

Hunted Sat. more hunters than ducks! 6 of us scratched out 15 birds, Mallards, Widgeons, Pintail and a woodie. Had to spend the night on the boat just to secure a spot. did not even bother Sunday, went to church where I belong! Found some woodies using some flooded timber, will be off to shoot at them in the morn.

Same crew, different pond, fewer ducks. Had three Wigeon come in and leave before LST, then we got a pair of Gadwall and took both. We did not see more than 10 ducks all morning.

Labs, I noticed the same thing yesterday, with ducks on their way somewhere else. It almost seemed like late season stale ducks. There are just not very many ducks in this area and lots of water for them to chose from.

Saturday we seen several different groups. But it seems that these aren’t new birds and they all knew where they were heading. Scratched out 3 gadwalls.

Sunday had more of the same with seeing birds but not even getting a look. Skunked for the first time this year. Sure is nice to be in the blind though!!

Well here we go; about like I expected, some ducks but not a lot. We saw a fair number of ducks but many of those had someplace else to go, probably as a result of all the rain we have gotten. If any worked close the decoyed pretty well. Surprisingly, our shooting wasn’t too bad and most that came in we got. Of course that was also due to the fact that they were mostly in groups of four or less. We ended up with a mixed bag of Gadwall, Wigeon and Mallard with a total bag of 11 for 5 guns.

Saw half a dozen on the pond we hunt in Wayne. Looked to be gaddys. Pond is real full. I think with the cold weather, the first half is going to be good this year. Just have to see.

I made a short scouting trip today. The ponds are all in good shape and bank full from the rains we have had. Most have some flooded grass at the edges and some have good amounts of Pondweed, Smartweed and aquatic vegetation. I saw a few Ringnecks on one pond and fair numbers of Gadwall on two others. It looks like habitat conditions will be good for the first half, we just need some more ducks. I have heard reports of fair numbers of ducks in the NW and western parts of the state.

Well, there is almost no water in SE Wyoming except the North Platte River and a few lakes. Saw a few Wigeon and divers on the Platte. Drove through SW Nebraska on the way home along the Platte and saw very few ducks. I have no idea what that means, BUT, I did shoot a nice Antelope!

Only saw two teal today. It seems the hunting is fair to poor at best. My theory is that they are avoiding this low pressure system. It’s a good excuse anyway.

Boogy, I thought I was at your secret spot this morning, but I didn’t see you.

Saw a few small groups, but more Woodies than teal. Managed to take two. Nobody got hurt, nothing got broke, dog got feathers in his mouth; good hunt.

Well, here we go! Teal season is often just a shakedown cruise for big duck season, but gonna try for some locally. We usually hit the road, but I got a WY antelope hunt coming an a few weeks so I have to save my allowance.

I must admit being a hard core Beretta man I was skeptical, however, that thing is great! The recoil reduction is not what they advertise, it kicks the same as the SBE II, but it cycles clean and fast and is very easy to load and put together so overall I think it is for sure a win! I am heading out with it today as a matter of fact. The sad news is like you, I still cant hit the broad side of a barn!!!

North wind the past few days may have pushed some out, but maybe it will bring in some more.

How did that new Benelli shoot? I shot my yesterday and I really like it. May not make me a better shot, but it sure is nice.

Apparently not, last night they all seem to disappear? Not sure if the weather moved them or what. There seemed to be lots of grain on the ground still but the birds were definately gone! Even the black birds left us?????
