With ample water now bird numbers are starting to rise. Mahanna from what i have heard has already started to pump water. From what i’ve heard is that mahanna is holding good numbers of gadwall and widgeon with a few teal. Catfish ponds in the delta are seeing a rise in birds. Mostly ring necks and scaup with some smiling mallards and teal. A few mallards have been reported to me but nothing in any numbers yet. With the cold weather forcasted next week in the dakota’s and minnesota that should push more birds into the area. It looks as though we are about two weeks ahead of schedule at this time of the season. As for south mississippi woodducks are on the rise. There is great numbers of doves also being reported. With around a month remaining before the season duck numbers are starting to stack up with what could be a great sign. The long term forcast for our state showing that we should have a wet and cold season should have birds holding in or state if the prediction is correct. We also have had good rains in the delta and most spots that have been dry have water now. With more rain forcasted in the next few days we should add to them. I hope all are doing great and are getting ready for what should hold out to be a great season. Remember to check your regulations for some of the regulations have changed a little.

Keep up the posting

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
Quite a few birds on the move. Mostly gray’s and teal with a few woodducks. From what i’ve heard that some good numbers of ducks and geese have been moving south out of canada into the dakota’s. A buddy said that good numbers of both lesser and small canada’s are arriving daily. He did say most of the small ducks have moved out. He also told me of good numbers of specks and mallards are arriving. Also tamale tom one of the guys i hunt with was fishing the coast and he reported alot of teal and some grays allready. With the weather coming in this next week to the dakotas and canada another push might happen. Remember the snow goose conservation season is now open and you will need to get a conservation # from the wildlife and fisheries. Hope everyone will have a great year and a safe year.
