Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 40-45 Degrees
Well hunted for snow geese on the last day of the conservation season on friday. We had a ton of birds moving in on the cold front that hit the midwest. All the birds where high but we managed to scratch out a few. We tried to film with the mississippi outdoors which we needed a few more kills on film. Looks like we might have to wait till the next conservation season to finish up that project. Anyways if we could have used a electronic caller on saturday we would have had a great film. Lots of birds low on both saturday and sunday.

Saturday we tried to hunt a few ducks. We shot some teal and woodducks with a few scaup thrown in. Tamale tom and little robert showed up for a afternoon hunt and we tried our luck on some catfish ponds. We shot a variety of birds from scaup to hooded mergansers. By the way i did shoot a hooded that was banded. Haven’t heard of a hooded being banded but i guess by the conversation i had with the 1 800 bird band lady that a small number of hooded’s are banded each year. Anyways tamale tom hunted mahanna and managed to kill some gadwall and mallards with a couple woodducks. The birds were not their like the opening weekend but if you could find a hole that wasn’t pressured you could find a few. Doug and drew the alabama duck slayers did kill some mallards and teal with a couple of gadwall at mahanna also.

Sunday we sat up on our lease and managed to kill gadwall and teal. It looked like more birds are arriving. Tamale tom and crew and also doug and drew killed a few again at mahanna but there was not many birds around and most birds were killed later in the morning.

All in all ducks continue to build in the south delta. Snow goose numbers continue to rise along with specks. I think within a couple of weeks we should have good numbers of all waterfowl in the region. It looks like the temp’s should remain cooler this week with lows in the 30’s for the rest of the week.

I hope all had a great weekend. We ended up with a good shoot each day but not a great shoot. Total bird numbers for the lease where 35.

One last note i took Lane and his son on their first duck and goose hunts. Tyler lane’s son killed his first goose ever a eagle headed blue goose which he’s going to put on the wall, lane also killed a really nice hooded drake merganser which he’s going to do the same with. You never get enough of introducing someone into waterfowl hunting. They are allready looking forward to trying it again.

Look forward to everyone’s posting keep it up!!!

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 60-65 Degrees
Hunted Saturday and Sunday. Saw good numbers of ducks but conditions were so flat it was hard to get them on the deck. Killed 15 ducks Saturday and 16 ducks on Sunday. Mixed bag of mallards, gadwalls, gw teal, pintails, and shovelers. Killed several snows and specks.

The snows are here in mass. I saw one field that must have held 25,000+.

The cold front coming through the midwest should help move some new ducks into the Delta.
