I’m thinking about going out on Sun. AM, but we’ll have to see how late I stay out Sat. night. I have Monday off, so that is my contingency plan. How was this AM? Did you get out?

Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 40-45 Degrees
Mon. the 26th. Was set up just after shooting light. Had 4 D & 1 H gaddie by 0800. Wind died down. Didn’t take another shot until noon when the wind picked up again. Shot another drake gaddy, 1 D sprig, and 1 goose by 1:00. Sat around for another hour just to watch the birds land into the spread. What a day! Going again
tommorrow (Fri). Rolly99…You plannin’ on going out soon?

Greenhead- Big Water 12-26-2005 22:42
Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 40-45 Degrees
After hunting on private ground 12/23 and 12/24 with no luck, my dad and I took off for Greenhead this morning. We had an absolute blast: Lots of birds once the wind came up and all different types. We ended with 3D and 1H Hollywoods, 2H Gads, 1 beauty Drake Redhead, 1D ringneck, 1D Mallard. We should have easily limited, but with the winds it was tough to hit them. What a great way to finish the Christmas holiday.

Feetdown,
God Bless you all,

Jeremy

With Christmas shopping and alot of good hunting, I’ve been off the computer lately. To Rolly 99…..This is Nevada …it will ice up one week melt the next…if not break a hole…they will come..You’ve seen by now…NVchuckar….That happends I’ve seen it befor. The same time you were at the sink, I was at stillwater. Best hunting I’ve had in 10 years. Almost all drakes. John Cunningham…….Thinks all the drakes are over there……..there not …because I’ve shot most of them over here. Been hunting from 12-10 to 12-23 with limits, every day. 12-16…12-17 very tough. To all …if the ice is too bad, go to the lake to the south?

Humboldt River 12-23-2005 22:24
Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 40-45 Degrees
Completely by accident, found an area upstream from Winnemucca that had a significant number of ducks. Couldn’t figure out why they are there, but had a great shoot, killing seven greenheads in about one hour. Lost two birds after dropping them on the opposite side of the river before I realized the depth of the water – WAY over the top of my waders, and the bank was too steep for the dog to climb. Even with this success, still seeing a majority of ducks as hens. I appreciate the opinion from John Cunningham, but admitting that all the boys hang out together in California is pointing toward a California stereotype that I ain’t gonna touch. I know they aren’t chasing girls, because all of those are in Nevada!

Greenhead/Sprig 12-22-2005 21:22
Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 35-40 Degrees
Got home on Sat. Dec 17th for 2 weeks leave. Went to Greenhead on Sun. After some serious glassing I spoted a smidg of open water in the middle of the sprig. Got half way there on someone elses hard work (ice-breaking), broke ice for about another 1/4 mile to the open spot, scared up a hundred or so birds of various type, and was set up around 12:30 had my limit by 3:00…3 drake greenheads, 2drake & 1 hen gaddy, and one drake cinnamon. Being a relative rookie, is it possible that drakes tend to have more of a survivability instnct? Meaning they fly where it’s harder to get to them I.E. in the middle-most area that has open water. Just a thought. HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Cloudy, Light Rain & Drizzle – 45-50 Degrees
John,

I have lived there in CA, and I only come to hunt in the Sac. valley and Los Banos. I would never live there again. I could go on and on as to why. It’s a border scurmish. We usually do quite well. But it is wierd that two of us and others who did not post have had the same experience.

C’mon….the Nevada drakes aren’t stupid! They’re all here in balmy California trying to poke our good look’in Calli hens….can you blame them? The weathers great, plenty of food, sweet look’in mama’s….and if you had a choice you’d be here too!!!
