It is hard to believe that your state does not have one VFE(Volunteer Field Editor)Why doesn’t someone step up to the plate.Your state is one of prime interest to waterfowlers,with no information,seems to me it will cut back on non-residents,unless that is why no VFE.

Cloudy, High Winds – 10-20 Degrees – Open Water
Got back from Battle Creek Nebraska on the 13th. There were birds all over. Shot 130 in 4 1/2 days. Weather was warming up when I left. Should be in South Dakota anytime.

For those that might be interested,offical count on snow geese at the Squaw Creek Natl. Waterfowl Refuge near Mound City Mo. near Iowa and Nebr. border,located in NW Mo.As of today,offical count 617,350.Snow in Souther Iowa and in Nebr. may have slowed their progress North,but they are on their way.

Art, I talked to some buddies that were up in SD pheasant hunting last weekend and said there are ducks and geese by the thousands from Winner to Peire.

I have not been hunting in SD, but I have been seeing a lot of ducks and geese in cornfields and anywhere there is open water.
I know some friends of mine hunt out near Pierre and they have been doing really well.
Don’t know if that helps, but that is all I know.

I agree about the farmers being open to letting Non residents hunt, they were very open to letting you go out and hunt ducks and geese. That is of course if the guides didn’t have the pieced locked up for King hunts for ducks, geese or pheasants. It would be nice if south dakota allowed more non residents but if they did it would just create more land locked up for guides to charge for hunts. Every state should limit the amount of guides to be licensed in each state. Each permit would only allow a guide to lock up so much land and if they break the law they pull the license for 5 years. I hate to be down on someone making a living but when it comes down to $250.00 a day that will make hunting only a rich man’s sport and I don’t believe they should do that to us nor our children that want to enjoy hunting. I wonder how people would feel if they came to minnesota for fishing and you can fish but if you go deeper than 5 feet of water you need to have a guide take you and pay $250.00 a day because the guides get the best fishing spots.

I am with John on this one.
I hunted South Dakota a couple weeks ago. Finding the land owner was tough but once a person takes the time to do their homework hunting was easy.
I think the greatest challange for South Dakota is the lack of hunters. With a very limited number of NR and a lower state population you don’t have the hunters to report.
Believe me if they would ever open up their NR numbers their would be reports.
