Cloudy, High Winds – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water
Great day for alabama! 5 hunters, 20 mallards by 7:00 am. Even after we bagged our limit several more mallards try to work in while we were picking up decoys. The ducks are here!

Cloudy, Occassional Rain Showers – 40-45 Degrees
Best day we have had this year!
3 hunters: Full Limit! 12 mallards, 3 widgeons, 3 teal. Big south wind played to our favor. Birds would just hang 15 feet over our decoys.
Ducks really want to hear a call and broke their necks to get down over the decoys.

We had 10 to 12 flights work us beautifully from daylight till 8:30A. We took only prime shots on the smaller bunches and kept from educating the bigger flights by passing on shooting. Lots of fun just working them in.

Pay days come few and far between!

Dec 11- 2 hunters:6 mallards & 3 widgeons.
Should have gone up on two other fights of mallards, but we thought they had one more pass in left em.
Saw very few birds but the ducks that we did see worked very well to a call. Ice was 1/2 inch thick. Never saw a duck while busting ice. Birds started moving around 7:30 to 10:30.

Dec12 2 hunters: 1 greenhead. Saw a dozen ducks total. Need water & weather to move birds in the area,

Season still very young! Maybe Santa will bring us all a bunch a yankee ducks!

Had to bust some ice to get to our spot. The water in this particular
area was down about two feet from last year. Didn’t see but a handful
of birds. A few woodies at first light and a pair of Gadwalls that looked at us once. Should have stuck to last weeks plan and hunted open water.

Well was a fun day, but long. When you put in those 18 hours days you know you got the passion or just plain crazy.
Did OK, Three gadwalls, 1 black, 4 woodies, 2 hunters for 8 hours. All day we may have saw 10 big ducks. Lots of woodies and that was it. Maybe today will be better with clouds. Could not pull another 18 hour shift. Just getting too old.
One note about Raccoon Creek WMA. Water is still low and a few outboards tried it and were DOA. Was not worth it. Witnessed a Mud Moter pulling the outboard motor out. Gate is closed now so new ballgame. The boat lane is deep enough, but until grass is removed by mud and go devil motors. Outboards may want to wait till after the next rain.
Did not hear a lot of shooting anywhere. Word has it the mallards are down, but we sure did not see this. Lots of gadwalls on the river and woodies here and there and that is about it from what we saw.
Good luck and be safe.
RAM
