Sunny & Clear, Morning Fog – 35-40 Degrees
Left for the field friday after school and did a little pass shooting with my father. That evening we took 2 specs and a nice honker. Saturday morning came around and it was foggy, but it helped us in the long run. set up 3 dozen HC’s and waited. Saw and heard tons of birds. Had about 10 snows sneek in at about 35 yards and didn’t get a shot off, however we managed to limit by 10:30 with a bonus snow. Hunted sunday and it was pretty slow, saw tons of birds but just couldn’t get any to finish. Shot 4 canadas and called it quits. Saw one of our fields full of geese, so that’s where i will be next weekend. There are ten’s of thousands of geese in the brush area. Good Hunting. Travis

Believe it or not.
I took my son goose hunting for the first time Monday the 5th. Decoys set and first flock of geese approach. They start to land and we come up blasting. Thought we had missed everthing butt about 300 yards away a lone goose starts to drop. I said Zach I think you killed your first goose. Zach said to me I think it fell over by my truck, ok will pick it up when were done. After the hunt Zach went to get his truck to pick up the decoys. As we gathered up the decoys we noticed blood on the wind sheild of the truck.I told my son I thought that goose feel over by your truck. When Zach opened up the tailgate on his truck to his surprise the goose had crashed into the bed of his truck. I told Zach to bad Elk doin’t do that.
Good Hunting Camoking.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Below Zero
Hunted a hay field today with my father and had a “decent” shoot. We knew the birds wouldn’t fly until late so we slept in. When we got to the field it was cold, real cold. Before setting up the decoys we jumped some warm water sloughs and had some luck, more so for me. I shot a banded drake mallard, what a way to end the season. My father shot a widgeon, and two mallards. So on to the goose hunt. Set up a spread of 3 dozen with good response from the birds. Only bad thing was my Benelli wasn’t cycling out the shells, so I was shooting a single shot Benelli. I was pissed, had two groups work right in and only dropped one. My father shot, but when he shoots at incoming geese it’s like he has never shot a gun before. Went to lunch and came back to about ten in the decoys, no way to get them, so that was that and we ended the day with two geese. Saw thousands of geese in the area, I guess it just depends on where you are.

Took 4 guys out to a wheat field today. Well, there might be some wheat under all the snow, for now its just one huge snow drift. Turned out to be a long cold day(-13 when we set up and never got above single digits). Shot the first goose we saw at about 10 am and things were looking good. Didn’t see more than a 100 birds until 3 o’clock and were able to stop some on their way to the river. Wind shifted and they came in kind of funny but managed 8 more. Only one greater and the rest bigger lessers. Should have had more but thats the way it goes. Id say there is less than a thousand birds in the area, still roosted on the river and feeding in some fields in no mans land. Sounds like some might have headed west, we got about a foot of snow last weekend and it isn’t melting anytime soon.

Set the monster spread out fri and ready to rumble, for the last few weeks birds havent been movin until later like 9:30 or 10 but fri the first ones started at 6:45 and didnt stop all day. Hunted all day with no shots fired had a few birds work and had some 20 feet above the pit but thought they were gonna finish but not go. Today killed one single rite off the bat about 7 and only stuck it out til noon there is alot of geese around and i think some new ones moved in in the last few days but everything is extremly patterned and know what and where they want and it really hard to compete with 10,000 real geese not far from the pit.
