Friday morning was kind of a bust. only ended up with one woodie. Saturday morning we busted a drake greenhead, 3 woodies and a merg. not a bad opener for alabama considering it was 75, bluebird days and full of mosquitos.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 50-60 Degrees
Friday morning we ended up with 2 hen mallards from Logan Martin- plenty of birds flying and freakin’ boats ripping up and down the river- there was a huge fish tournament which kinda screwed us.
Friday evening we hunted a local swamp and busted 2 mergansers and a woodie…
Some of my buddies went to G’ville for the opener and busted 9 including 2 Canvasbacks!
Sunday- slept in…

Opening day 18th. My son and I along with 3 others managed to knock down 7 geese lost 1. We teamed up on a mallard drake to start the day. As always it is impossible to have a perfect hunt and we should have dropped more geese and a few more ducks. My friend invited us back tommorrow for another round of resident geese. That one that we wounded last week is swimming around on the pond so we will dispatch him asap. I hate having game running around wounded because we did not do our job.
Let you know how it goes.

Cloudy, Heavy Fog – 35-40 Degrees
Saturday morn we only saw about 15 ducks. I was lucky to knock down two woodies. Fog was terrible. Sunday morn fog was thick again I actually missed my spot and had to run back to it as daylight quickly approached however it was all for nothing as I only saw about 7 woodies and they were all out of range.

saturday morning was a bust. some yahoos set up about 150-200 yards away from us and were busting ducks a bit high i thought. plus one guys walked around a lot chasing a cripp;le i think. we got a chance at one group of woodies and blew it. saw plenty of birds and geese though. Saturday evening saw nothing. Sunday mornign busted a nice geenhead but ruined it by missing on the next pari in. watched a group of 4 and 2 geese for about 45 minutes swimming around about 150 yards off. still was fun.
off to bama for the friday opener. will let you know how it goes.
Chris, sorry i didn’t call you back. i had my phone off all weekend and didn’t know it. good to hear you did well. i told you that dog was coming around.

Saturday morning proved to be very exciting! We saw probably 100+ woodies early. Saw geese flying in every direction mostly away from us. We pulled two small groups of geese in and put the smack down on em’ pretty quickly. Several minutes later we got two Mergansers to come in and we way layed them too. Total of 6 geese and 2 ducks for Saturday. Crash made a superb retrieve across the pond and about 50 yards through some thick briars. I never saw the duck. She made her pops proud.
Sunday morning was the woodie hole- ended up with 8 total.
I posted a picture from Saturday in the Dog gallery- check it out.

Saturday three of us went out and only had one group of woodies come within range for a shot. Only dropped one. Not our best performance. Today, we were greeted with fog and could only hear the whistling of wings. Heard guys limited out quickly on woodies over at Fort Stewart.

If the ride I took up and down the Ocmulgee is any indication of tommorows hunt I will be dissapointed as I saw not one single duck. The river was at the rim of its banks and fast as usual. Saw quite a few large logs floating down which could make tommorows boat ride interesting. I hope everyone else has a better place lined up than me tommorow.
