Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 60-65 Degrees
Saturday started out slow but we finally got into a bunch of Chukar, one covey was over 100, I got a triple but lost one of em in the creek bottom. Over all it was a fun time but after running up and down hills for two days I remember why I like duck hunting so much. Friday I will hit GH and Saturday I’ll be shooting Quail, I might even go goose hunting in the afternoon. Can we get some reports on the opener for GH or did everyone skip it like me.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Over 70 Degrees
The Youth Hunt was fun, we got a late start but managed to squeeze in amongst two other parties. The action was good for the first hour, then it quickly dropped off.

I thought it went well considering there just isnt alot of places to hunt ducks any more and GH looked to be about 1/3 full and thats generous.

Like I posted befor my son connected with four birds, one being his first Bull Sprig, that was cool and a great shot too. He had a few come into the dekes but he missed all the easy shots and made all of the passing shots. Most of the birds were GWT. it looked like the majority of kids were done by 9AM, some kids north of us were some shooting fools they limited out and even took a goose, I think they were picking up decoys by 8AM. I know their dad was quite the proud papa, those kids made some really good shots.

My son had a good time and made some great shots too, infact all of his birds were from some pretty spectacular shooting, one GWT almost landed at our feet. I am going to have to get in some practice, this might be the year he out shoots the old man.

I have to commend all of the hunters and their fathers for being accommodating and good sportsmen, it was a bit crouded but everyone got along and as far as I know there were no serious injuries or incidents. I took a few pellets to the shoulder and neck but nothing penetrated and after we yelled out our objections to the direction and angle of fire, corrections were made and we were never accosted by shot again.

I hope the opener is just as fun and safe, it will be for me I’ll be in the uplands chasing Chukar, Quail and Huns.

gun dog ,
wwwwoowwwwwwwww, sea ducks on walker lake thats the best news i ve heard for a while…!!!!!.thank ya much gun dog ! my dad and my son and i dont get up to northern nevada much maybe fallon two times a year or stillwater to crack a swan if one should get a tag. oo wait a sec, or i should say attempt. but i shoot good!!! ha ha ,just ta leave a joke for dad .he~ll love that one . but rubies i hear are dry (franklin lake),for that matter but the marsh im almost sure is soaked.in the past i ve had good sucess just walking in and setting up about a half a dozen pintails and about 3 cin teal decoys off the brown dike .then this year was thinking about gettin real serioso. boat, dog, benelli etc.i got some real goodies down south thats where i do some shooting . i make sure i go out of the state for at least half the season.south dakota usually is very promising for 5lb greenheads with jewlery ya know its a lot of fun .the opener this year will be probably hiko farm ponds .and o yeah just sssshhhhh, just north of franklin lake there is a couple of hot springs on a guys farm (been trying to get to meet the man bot had no luck yet at that)10 miles north of there full of big big greenheads .theres a good spot like i promised ya .another if you get south sunnyside,is missing some water but looks verey good bot ill warn ya this place on the opener has a lot of traffic but is soooo good for the first two days, that the who cares about traffic sydrome comes in after the first flock comes by. but there is a high density of waterfowl in that area, way more than hiko ,overton, and my southern areas .i have a gggggreat spot down south to .looking forward to this season willin to give yall a hand (please excuse any offensive farm language)and help ya fill some bags remember if you have any trouble during the season with decoys or calling techniques let us know asap be glad to help .gosh cant even imaine sea ducks on walker lake. they wait a minute ive heard this before they blow over during westerly winds through the sierras and over walkermountains heard of em in mono lake to .? here is to you gun dog is there fresh water clams in that lake if know there food source that ll be good reason forem being in there. brock perry greenheads live infear and pintails hate to be greenheads.

I hunt dove north of Reno and around Winemucca, this year I didnt have alot of time to travel for dove. I have a great private spot 30 min from my driveway so when the birds didnt show up I spent the time getting ready for the up comming season.

My son will be shooting ducks in three days, I think I’m more excited than he is. I will call you soon, If your looking for some info on duck hunting up here you should check out Walker Lake, I hear that it is holding good numbers of birds and alot of divers, I am planning on at least one hunt there this season, I hear you can hunt Harlequin and other sea ducks late in the season, it dont make sense to me why sea ducks would venture this far inland but what the heck, it might be worth it. You cant find em if you dont get out and look for em.LOL
