Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 10-20 Degrees – Open Water
Real cold push here the the Northeast. Take heed! // Think safety first,especially around ramps and shore lines. Remember you can get hypothermia even when not wet. One of the first signs of hypothermia is that you do not think rationally…. . (Think about that statement while you are awake and warm). It’s no joke…. . Dogs also get hypothermia. Be prepared ahead of time. Then you will have an enjoyable time out. BWTBWTB and SHAO, GNR.

Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water
Season does not reopen until TOMORROW! Brandt will remain closed until Dec. 17th. Ramps, small creeks and channels are frozen. Wind chills are in the low 20s this AM. Gale force winds are predicted for the reopener on Tuesday. Dress accordingly. Boat safe. Hunt safe. BWTBWTB, GNR.

Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 40-45 Degrees
Hunted opening day at channel pond on the east end. Didn’t see as many birds as we were hoping for, but we did bag several gadwall, a mallard and two canadas. Looking forward to our next hunt and the rest of the season. Good luck to everyone and Happy Holidays!

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water
Great waterfowling weather for the opener around the island…. . Cold temps and high winds had the birds moving. Challenging shooting for sure, especially for those that did not have the wind to their backs. Most everyone had their Black Duck…. . Some had geese, mallards, and a few divers mixed in. No reports from down west or from the east end. I will have to make some calls. Hunt safe, GNR.

I had a e-mail from Ron Sineo of South Shore Waterfowlers Assoc. yesterday announceing that the long awaited dedication of their Wounded Warriors project, a handicapped blind at Southaven Park, will take place today Nov. 29th, 12:30 PM at the check in station on River Road on the east side of the park. The project was made possible by the joint efforts of SSWA, Suffolk County Parks, and Riverhead Building Supplies. Food will be served. Come down and show your support for our warriors.

A lot of shooting going on around the south shore bays on the weekend of the 13th and 14th…. . Seems like the Youth Days had a good turn out. Well done. // Fair numbers of ducks, geese, and Brandt are now about the island for the opener. Sea ducks are about and still arriving….. . Get out and enjoy the total experience. Think safety first. Sunny & Clear, High Winds – 50-60 Degrees
Took the boat out for the first time this year and had a good dry run with the trailer and boat. Saw very few ducks, but did see acouple flocks of brant. Seems like they are becoming more and more common here on eastern long island. Last year was the first season we killed them on a constant basis while hunting puddle ducks. Hope to see some new birds in the next few weeks. I’ll get some scouting done this weekend and report on Monday, Thanks.
