Though geese were visible in the Management Area at Pymatuning, numbers were low. The Linesville Spillway was holding a good amount of Mallards and goose activity light. This was the heaviest hunted spot I observed for the day with about 10 trucks in the parking lot. Note that the lake is very high and the westerly wind was kicking white caps up on the open lake. Hope cooler weather keeps the birds on the move. Ontelaunee lake has lots of wood ducks flying, very little honkers. Time will tell. Will post results. Geese were traveling in big groups and we worked to pull small groups out of the main flock. All birds responded well to calling and settled in nicely. Probably saw ~150 birds total in less than one hour of hunting. A few groups came back on the come-back call. I have one or two more hunts left in me befoe the fat lady sings though. First born came on 12/26 and takes most of of my/our free time. I hope to prepare some decent waterfowl dishes for maple sugar season and get things lined up for next year. This year just kind of slipped by with a new house and baby. Better luck nect year, right? Posted By: Duckman-Dew Guest Lake Arthur, PA 12-25-2007 21:47 Cloudy, High Winds – 25-30 Degrees – Open Water It’s just what I was afraid of, no ducks! Hunted Lake Arthur Christmas eve morning on the backside of a front with a 20 degree temperature drop, snow flurries, overcast, low pressure system, and no ducks. I’m afraid they’ve headed South. We hunted from daylight to 11:00 am, and only saw two ducks, an hour apart. I thought that with the 25 m.p.h. winds, they might be sitting down somewhere, so I ran around the lake trying to see if I could find any sheltered back in a cove or something, and only ran up four more. I hunted late this morning and only saw three. I think we are probably done until next fall. Do the world a favor, teach a kid to hunt. Posted By: water dog bay Guest 12-24-2007… Continue reading
