Pennsylvania Duck and Goose Hunting Report Archive

Posted By: PaCowboy Guest 07-19-2007 21:05 – – – Wouldn’t they have to have approval from the Fed’s or the Game Commission to start with? Aren’t ALL geese federally regulated including resident flocks. Seems to me if they didn’t have preapproval there should be some serious legal issues here. I will be right there with you in making my voice heard Woody. THIS IS B.S. Posted By: woodyhunter Guest 07-19-2007 09:24 – – – spin, i will do both.we gotta stop it now or every township in the state with 25 geese in thier park are gonna want to do the same, then there will be way less residents around period. remember, all of the geese we hunt in sept are those very geese.somewhere there will be 10 less flocks of 25. how many people would love to have just 5 flocks of 10 come in to the dekes in sept?… Continue reading

The geese are tearing up the local farm ponds also (as usual). Farmers have approached me and have been asking how long they’ll stick around. Not sure. Posted By: Joe W. Not sure why but I lay the blame on those hunters who don’t report cause they are hoping the next guy does. And when he doesn’t they just just move on to greener pastures until they find what they are looking for. Information is a major component in our sport-no information is the nail in the coffin of this web site…lets keep it around for a while. Enuf said. Posted By: Casey-Huxoll Field Editor Boardman area 11-10-2009 11:57 – – – Well with elk season over i am back in the hunt for waterfowl. had pretty good success this weekend on geese in a private pasture. The birds seem to be moving in now. I am seeing a good number of ducks cruising the river in the eveneing and have started to see small groups of geese cruising all day long. mainly in the morning and evening though. There are also a couple groups of snows around. The geese seem to be hitting the disked corn fields in the area right now. so if you can find a field with birds in it and get permission should make for a good hunt. There have also been a few birds hitting the fields at the loacl refuge. I think the migration is underway and should make for some good shooting… Continue reading

Posted By: Paul-Cantrell Field Editor Sauvie Island 01-14-2009 22:34 Cloudy, Winds Calm – 30-34 Degrees – Open Water I got to hunt Charlton Kennels Century Farm today. For years I’ve trained on their concept ponds but the duck club was off limits. Today I got to go as a guest and we had a great time. Unfortunatly once we busted the birds off the ponds getting to the blinds, they birds didn’t really return. I managed to scratch out a couple of Wood ducks but the shooting was a bit slow. Club members mentioned that the afternoon shoots have been much better as the birds come in to roost for the night. The last big day was Jan 1 when the club shot 54 birds. Regardless of the shooting, just the oppertunity to hunt a classic duck club, stay in the club house and sit in the same fields that… Continue reading

Posted By: Casey-Huxoll Field Editor Boardman 12-16-2008 18:01 – – – Cold…. It got cold over the weekend and we even got a little snow.. Should make for some good hunting in the weeks to come. Didnt have as good of a weekend as i hoped but that is hunting. you cant kill them all all the time. McCormick seems to be a little froze right now as well as the river blinds. Just glassing off of my farm looks like the ice is out about 100 yards from the shore. And with the forcast being colder and more snow wed. night and thursday i think it will be almost not worth a hunt down there. The ducks should be going to corn if you can find a field with ducks hitting it should be a pretty good hunt. Geese seem to be hitting green fields. alfalfa mainly on my… Continue reading

Next weekend is the youth hunt. Time to break out the new gear, clean up the old gear and clean the calls…. September goose was pretty good to me. Lots of geese in the valley and had flights daily coming up the river. I’m disappointed in the bluebill limits but there is always next year. Have fun…. /Paul Posted By: Casey-Huxoll Field Editor Boardman area 08-21-2008 18:09 – – – Well here we go… Continue reading
