Ducks were mainly teal, pintail and greys with some mallards mixed in but very few. These might be some of the liberated mallards from the released birds south of here. Not sure. Ventured South of Crowley and found about 70-100 Mottled ducks and about 50 Blue wings holed up in a little pond right next to the one we will be hunting….We will probably get a little action there this weekend if we decide to go. Went and Scouted Sabine Refuge. It is completely different than before Rita. New Marsh everywhere. Didn’t see hardly any ducks though….Probably won’t be hunting there this next weekend. Posted By: cajunsorc Guest SW La Field 01-16-2007 09:24 Cloudy, High Winds – 45-50 Degrees Hunted Friday thru Monday. 24 bird limits each day 75% gwt with a few mallards, pintail and greys mixed in. Sunday we saw thousands of new ducks migrating into SW Louisiana so hopefully the rest of the season will be great. Geese are not moving at all. Posted By: cajunlab Guest Atchafalaya Spillway 12-23-2006 01:20 Mostly Cloudy, No Precipitation – 60-65 Degrees Found a hole with hundreds of wood ducks. From 4:15 pm to sunset we were covered up with wood ducks. There were so many that it confused me and my 2 hunting partners as to which one to shoot at. Needless to say we got our limit of wood ducks. It was fast and furious action for fun quick shooting. Agreat hunt to practice and hone my shoting skills. They fly like jet fueled rockets if they do not decoy. We also bagged some redheads and green wing teal earlier that morning. The mallards were few and far between. We got a few stragglers to work, but would not decoy.
