Drake Slayer-tell your Louisiana buddies that a farmer friend of mine in Manitoba said there are literally thousands of Blue winged teal using there sloughs and not moving. It was 90 degrees this week in Minnedosa. I hunt up there in early October and always get to see alot of teal.

hit guntersville for the last weekend. lots of cans but low duck numbers overall. shot a couple grey dicks, one can and a coulple of bluebills. had a blast but not many birds shot.
overall this year have not been able to go as much as i wanted to . life did not cooperate this year. but it was a year of several quality hunts with good friends so i am satisfied. hope to hit it better next year.

did really well this morning! got 2 mallards, a widgeon, a black, a good looking spoonbill drake, 3 greenwing, and 3 hooded, and 3 ringnecks. observed lots of big ducks. lots good birds taken from my general area of club this morning. wasnt’t sure how morning would be since warmer weather had moved in untill last night. maybe cold front has birds starting down again. it wasn’t a barn burner but it was steady shooting. shot untill about 9:30 and birds all but quit. wednesday was decent had an almost limit of ringers and greenwings. found my woodies on thursday! killed 4 limits in a hurry and 3 bonus hoooded merganser drakes. my buddy eats um’, so we shoot um! lol! good luck to everyone! hope santee-clause was good to you and your families.

Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 40-45 Degrees
it is very hard to get in to a mess of ducks on local beaver ponds. there is way to much water all around and woodies are in the river banks wearing the acorns out! i tried to hunt some of my secluded hole yesterday and today before i go back onto my meca. just not much luck. killed a few woodies and some green wings but no where near limits. will be back on the club tomorrow and will have trouble picking the pefect birds for sure though. dont’t know why there are so many species and so many of each there but they are. we left them alone as a club agreement untill tomorrow and then its hard at em for a week and then a rebuilding for another half week. good luck to everyone through the holidays and merry christmas let us know how you’re doing. you don’t have to be a feild staffer to post, as you can see with me, and it helps us all to share info even without sharing holes. i will post on whats happens tomorrow.

headed back over to bama to give the birds a try. had an amazing hunt saturday morning. we were done, limited out in about an hour. teal, mallards and a gadwall filled the bag. the only sour note was that we lost a couple birds that dove on us but other than that a perfect morning. man i love that hole.

we shot saturday morning and had limits of big ducks by 8:30. not and overload of birds but deffinatley quality birds. picking up deocys and started noticing large groups of black birds moving in very high. as the first groups came into good view i realized they were ducks in 200-300 wads. noticed 2-3 groups to start with and my first thoughts were simply that they were on open water and somebody had spoked the up. as i finished picking up birds and deocys i looked to the sky again and these groups were buting up into 20-30 bird groups and diving into what ever hole they could fit. the waves of birds just kept coming and coming. i had never witnessed a true migration and i was in complete awe. my hunting partner had to get home before lunch so i couldnt just sit there and observe all day like i wanted. it it almost a 30 minute boat run back to the truck and this madness continued even after i had loaded my boat and began to leave. i have never seen anything like this in my life!!!! with no exaggeration i really believe we witnessed 7,000-10,000 birds. thery were back to back at high altitudes and as they came over the water they would bust up in to 30-50 bird groups and plug every hole on this place. i can’t reveal this location as it is private and to the reatively large side of things and hard to control trespassers, but i will say it is in the southern portions of georgia. i was starting to wonder if the birds were coming before the season was over, as we usually have 1000 new birds or so every week and some leave there and it has been kinda slow as far as new birds go. THERE HERE! This morning was simple. we had 6 limits in a mater of less than and hour and only shot good mature drakes. shot a sucluded hole on this same place as to not disturb the large majority of birds. will report more through the next 2 week as i am off and will be hunting everyday.

good weather but still not the vast numbers of birds down yet. just my opinion. we did shoot 3 canvasback and 3 gadwall. should have been limits by all but we shot VERY poorly. fun time had by all.
