Drake Slayer-tell your Louisiana buddies that a farmer friend of mine in Manitoba said there are literally thousands of Blue winged teal using there sloughs and not moving. It was 90 degrees this week in Minnedosa. I hunt up there in early October and always get to see alot of teal.

hit guntersville for the last weekend. lots of cans but low duck numbers overall. shot a couple grey dicks, one can and a coulple of bluebills. had a blast but not many birds shot.

overall this year have not been able to go as much as i wanted to . life did not cooperate this year. but it was a year of several quality hunts with good friends so i am satisfied. hope to hit it better next year.

did really well this morning! got 2 mallards, a widgeon, a black, a good looking spoonbill drake, 3 greenwing, and 3 hooded, and 3 ringnecks. observed lots of big ducks. lots good birds taken from my general area of club this morning. wasnt’t sure how morning would be since warmer weather had moved in untill last night. maybe cold front has birds starting down again. it wasn’t a barn burner but it was steady shooting. shot untill about 9:30 and birds all but quit. wednesday was decent had an almost limit of ringers and greenwings. found my woodies on thursday! killed 4 limits in a hurry and 3 bonus hoooded merganser drakes. my buddy eats um’, so we shoot um! lol! good luck to everyone! hope santee-clause was good to you and your families.

it is very hard to get in to a mess of ducks on local beaver ponds. there is way to much water all around and woodies are in the river banks wearing the acorns out! i tried to hunt some of my secluded hole yesterday and today before i go back onto my meca. just not much luck. killed a few woodies and some green wings but no where near limits. will be back on the club tomorrow and will have trouble picking the pefect birds for sure though. dont’t know why there are so many species and so many of each there but they are. we left them alone as a club agreement untill tomorrow and then its hard at em for a week and then a rebuilding for another half week. good luck to everyone through the holidays and merry christmas let us know how you’re doing. you don’t have to be a feild staffer to post, as you can see with me, and it helps us all to share info even without sharing holes. i will post on whats happens tomorrow.

headed back over to bama to give the birds a try. had an amazing hunt saturday morning. we were done, limited out in about an hour. teal, mallards and a gadwall filled the bag. the only sour note was that we lost a couple birds that dove on us but other than that a perfect morning. man i love that hole.

we shot saturday morning and had limits of big ducks by 8:30. not and overload of birds but deffinatley quality birds. picking up deocys and started noticing large groups of black birds moving in very high. as the first groups came into good view i realized they were ducks in 200-300 wads. noticed 2-3 groups to start with and my first thoughts were simply that they were on open water and somebody had spoked the up. as i finished picking up birds and deocys i looked to the sky again and these groups were buting up into 20-30 bird groups and diving into what ever hole they could fit. the waves of birds just kept coming and coming. i had never witnessed a true migration and i was in complete awe. my hunting partner had to get home before lunch so i couldnt just sit there and observe all day like i wanted. it it almost a 30 minute boat run back to the truck and this madness continued even after i had loaded my boat and began to leave. i have never seen anything like this in my life!!!! with no exaggeration i really believe we witnessed 7,000-10,000 birds. thery were back to back at high altitudes and as they came over the water they would bust up in to 30-50 bird groups and plug every hole on this place. i can’t reveal this location as it is private and to the reatively large side of things and hard to control trespassers, but i will say it is in the southern portions of georgia. i was starting to wonder if the birds were coming before the season was over, as we usually have 1000 new birds or so every week and some leave there and it has been kinda slow as far as new birds go. THERE HERE! This morning was simple. we had 6 limits in a mater of less than and hour and only shot good mature drakes. shot a sucluded hole on this same place as to not disturb the large majority of birds. will report more through the next 2 week as i am off and will be hunting everyday.

youth hunt event 06-30-2009 15:16

Gentlemen:

Thought i would pass on the link for the info to what we hope will be a huge youth hunting event the end of July. My buddy is the Alabama State DU Greenwing Chair and is putting it on with the NWhat and US Corps of Engineers. It started as a duck event and before we knew it the thing grew into an outdoor event. The sponsorship is definately there. Already have commintments from the likes of QDMA, DU, NWhat, Academy, Bass Pro, several Banks. The list goes on and on. The plan is for every kids to walk away with something hunting related free. All we need are the kids. I know it is a bit of a hike from Georgia but it is all weekend and i really think it would be well worth the trip. Heck we are even feeding people for the weekend and having a fishing rodeo. Can’t beat that.

Check it out and hopefully you all can bring a kid.

Ring necks are starting to trickle in

Check the Retention ponds around Gaylord palms in Orlando

THe local area feeding ponds are getting some.

Most of the lakes where there is hydrilla are void of ducks, saw a few teal on a Barometer pond but no significant numbers.

Central and N. Fla. lakes that I have seen that have water AND HYDRILLA… have ducks. Ringnecks mostly with puddlers. Hydrilla seems to be the key. Hope budget constraints keep hydrilla spraying at bay. PCS has some ducks but hard to hunt because of low water. PCS is in the phosphate business. Not the duck business. Fulvous

Pretty good 1st phase: lots of wood duck and got into some of the 1st ringnecks of the season. One hunter at the ramp reported seeing Mallards?! With the warm trend this week, not sure if the ringnecks will move north some but the cold front coming down hopefully will bring in new birds by Dec 9.

Went over the weekend to destin, fort walton and did a little fishing. Did see some diving ducks and even some teal around. But we did some fishing down there with a guide named Brian Keith. He put us on a ton of fish and took us to a honey hole. My daughter caught a nice 37-38″ redfish along with a good many red snapper. We caught fish for over four hours. I highly recommend him and his rates are very good. Anyone interested in going with him his # is 850-543-7386 He does 1/2 day trips as well as full day.

Just thought i would pass that along.

Check out the large number of scaup in the retention ponds around Gaylord resort in Orlando!!

Not much, maybe 100 ringnecks in small groups on the chain o lakes. We should start to see some increase in numbers as cold as it is up north.

Yeah, I hunted a lake in the panahandle region and did very well. Had a mixed bag consisting of gadwalls, teal, wood ducks, redheads, ringnecks, and bluebills. Good shooting, the cold weather up north really got some birds down for us. Two mornings in a row with four people hunting and everybody got limits, not bad. One guy shot a banded woody, dont see that too often. Good luck to everybody.

I hunted the Big O on Saturday; and it was sad. Did not see many birds few; saw a few large flocks buzzing around but way out of gun range. I spoke with other hunters at the boat ramp and they all said the same thing; it was the worst opener they have ever had. From the reports that I have read it sounds like there are a lot of birds in the northern part of the state. It was still fun to get out; planning on going again Sunday.

Hey fellas,

I am just a 26 year old farm-boy from Illinois who is now a wildlife biologist for the state near Ft Myers. I left behind my lifetime hunting partners at home and would like to make some new friends down here or information on areas to hunt. I am fairly familiar with Southwest Florida and live in Lehigh Acres. I am a responsible, safe, and passionate waterfowler and would love to familiarize myself with this area as quick as possible so I don’t lose many hunting days.

Feel free to email me at wtrfwl5@yahoo.com or reply on here if interested in making a new hunting partner.

Thank you

No i have not ever hunted over on St. Vincent island but my dad has several times. He has only killed whitetails over there though, no sanbar deer. All i can tell is that it is hard hunting, no transportation, going in by boat, and if it is hot MOSQUITOS the size of dove. Again i have never been there hunting, i have just heard all of the stories of the people that have been there. I would probably go to the trouble of making the trip for a Sanbar deer but not for a whitetail, you have bigger deer in Eufaula than down there.

Once the ducks start to show on Seminole, you know it want be long until they make it down the river. I havent ever hunted ducks in Eufaula, just deer. You guys have some big deer compared to us here in FL. Good Hunting and Get em Drake!!!

Every now and then I check here to see if there are any posts. Most of the time nothing. Good to see a new post. I hunted for the first time in Bay county 2 years ago for ducks and really enjoied it. Plan to scout the Dead Lakes area this year and hunt it also along with the other area I hunt down there. Ducks up here arn’t plentaful yet, but will be. Coming to the Eufaula area???? Give me a post. =*(^)< [Edited By Puddleskipper on 2005-10-02 15:59] Posted By: get em drake WFC Sponsor Bay/Washington County 09-26-2005 10:24 Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm - Over 70 Degrees Well if you like sweating in 5mm neoprene waders, mosquitos, bw teal, and wood ducks you would have loved this weekend. The birds flew late on Saturday but by the time we got out of the water we had a full limit of woodies and two bonus teal. It is rare to kill teal where we were hunting so that was a nice bonus. We all hunted deerpoint lake on Saturday afternoon and did not do nearly as well. It is proof that a little pressure makes the birds scarce. Sunday morning was good as well with a few more bonus teal from another area where we never kill that many. I talked to several people who mixed teal into their bag for the weekend so maybe that is a good sign for the migration. Well now back to work, I have got two months worth of anticipation to look forward to. Well I hope everybody had a good early season, see you guys when it gets cold, or at least cooler. Get em drake! Cant be a bad thing, but will they stay for 2 weeks is the big question. I MADE THE BIG PURCHASE AND BOUGHT THE NEW 29 HORSE MUD BUDDY HYPERDRIVE IN THE OFFSEASON. WE WILL SEE IF IT IS WORTH IT, SO FAR I FEEL PRETTY GOOD ABOUT IT. WELL THE WOODIES ARE PRETTY THICK AND I HAVE SEEN SOME SPOTTY TEAL. WE HAVE STILL GOT TWO WEEKS LEFT FOR THE BIRDS TO MOVE IN SO PRAY FOR NORTH WINDS AND A LITTLE LUCK. HOPE EVERYBODY HAS A GREAT EARLY SEASON. GET EM DRAKE!!! Saturday morning was good had lots of Teal buzzing around. Hunting stopped around 10:00. Hunted a couple hours on Sunday birds gut up early and grounded within a half hour. Shooting was fast and furious. Mostly teal had a few mottle ducks buzz by. Hope every one had a good season looking forward to opening day of Phase I. Its time to get back to fishing. Posted By: naustin Guest The Big O 01-26-2005 13:15 Cloudy, Heavy Fog - 60-65 Degrees Hunted the Big O again this past weekend. Due to the heavy fog light levels were poor. Did here some shooting in the area around me. Seems like the teal have pushed on and the diver numbers are down. Did have two mottled ducks decoy perfectly, able to take one down. I will give it one more try this upcoming weekend for one last hurrah. Good Luck to all.
