Cloudy, Heavy Fog – 60-65 Degrees
Friday we had a great hunt.We limited out on Ducks. We killed over 40 snows, blues. We also had a visit from the Feds on friday checking everybody on our lease. One young kid got a ticket for not signing his federal stamp. The fed wrote him a ticket, took his picture of him.He also took a pic of his gun wrote the serial # down as well.He also took his 3 green heads.

If someone leaves your blind they need to either take their ducks are tag them with name and license information. They also checked several other places in the area. There are 6 USFWS agents in that area at this time.If i were you i would be very careful about everything. Some hunters were still shooting way after 5 pm on Saturday.

Just a warning for everybody….

Don’t let the warm weather fool ya, there are new birds all over. Right on time according to the log books. I read that birds will migrate based on the decreasing daylight during later winter days. I BWT, Greys and Pintails go first followed by Widgeon. Mallards and divers are usually last. I really do think that regardless of weather, Mallards will migrate after or around Christmas and provide good action the last three weeks of the season, happens all of the time. The birds are more scattered than last year because we have way more water than we had at this time last year so you’ll have to stir your stumps a little more and find them. When you do though you should have pretty good action. Most hunters will not work (walk) enough to find them though. Don’t be one of those guys. Get some exercise, walk around new areas and find some new water! Check the Arkansas reports. For no reason at all, folks are seeing new birds.

I bet if you get out this weekend you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Should be good in the timber.

Good Luck,

SJ

Arctic Blast – Froze Out
Man, its freezing here. (Kidding) Saw an endless liine of snows headed North this morning.

This weekend holds little, little promise. What few ducks in our hole today, will no doubt be gone tomorrow. Either North or dead, they’ll be gone.

Sunny & Clear, Winds Calm – Froze Out
Hunted Saturday morning in the timber. Ice everywhere…just as we knew it would be. Got to the hole no problem. Broke the hole open and got set up. Shot woodies till 8:30. No big ducks seen at all. Packed it in and went back to the camp for hot coffee, bacon, eggs and biscuits. Can’t hunt the greentree after 12 so we were done. After listening to the weather for Sunday we figured it would be iced up again as they were calling for 25 degrees over night. We figured we would hunt a ditch where we saw several hundreds the afternoon before do to it was the only thing not frozen. Woke up to find 40 degrees and no ice. SHould have gone back to the timber! Didn’t hear any shots from that way though so I guess we didn’t miss much.

Here is my thought: I am not sure that the weather has as much to do with migration as we think. After looking at our log books, we kill Mallards after Christmas consistently. We’ll kill a few earlier but not on a consistant basis. I think it has more to do with the calendar than the thermometer. Not sure why but that’s just the observation at our club.

Good luck to all, keep posting.

Arctic Blast – 10-20 Degrees – Ice
I hunted friday saturday and sunday.I put out 3 trolling motors Thursday night trying to keep hole open.It still froze about 1.5–2.0 inches thick. We didn’t even see a duck friday morning. It took us until about 11.30am to get a decent hole open.Did manage 4 mallards,2 teal,1 pintail drake late that afternoon.

There were ducks everywhere thursday but I believe most went south or east to the river for the weekend.Decent in the afternoons but the mornings are horrible.Ducks are feeding all night long and sitting on the big water during the daylight hours.

I have never seen as many Snow geese in my life they are thick as thiefs.

Im also looking for the individual that (Stole) 1 Dozen GH Snow floaters and 1 Dozen GH magnum Mallard decoys from my Barn.If anyone hears of it please let me know. They got those plus A dozen more Green head Gear Mallard field decoys also.Plus to stand-up Drake bags.It want happen again because all decoys are under lock and key. These were all Brand New and slightly used my son bought these for my birthday..If I catch you I will make you wish you had never stole anything….REWARD OFFERED!!!! For Information

Starting to see new birds daily. More and more of a mixed bag starting to show up, should lead to a good weekend

dhkid, I think big drake is referring to using PM’s or a message board if you two want to converse back and forth. No hard feeling or anything, just keeping the field reports for ducks

Mostly Sunny, No Precipitation – 50-60 Degrees
New birds continue to filter in to the Delta. Best concentration continues to be Morgan’s and Matthew’s Brake. Three limits of Fats and a few Greys thrown in as good measure last weekend.
